Can you find the baby boomers' Explain. Yes I can find the baby boomers. They range between the ages of 38-48. There is an increase in population for this age range in 1998 of about 1%. 2. What do you think the social consequences will be for these changes' Provide at least three examples of social consequences that will result from these changes. According to the demography lab, by the year 2028 there will be a huge increase in the human population of about 20,000,000 people. There will be an increase in both women and men ages 85+, with women having the highest population. There will also be an increase in both men and women in the age range of 50-84 of approximately 1-1.5%. Activity 2: China’s Reproductive Policy 1. Can you see evidence of China’s population policy' Explain. Yes I can see evidence of China’s population policy. During 1998 the population of older adults in china is very low. Male and Females from birth to 34 make up most of their population during that year. 2. What changes will occur in China’s population structure because of its policy' China’s policy will cause a huge change in the percentage of older adults compared to the percentage of younger adults and children 100 years from now. The population of older adults will increase in some areas by almost 2%. At the same time the percentage of older adults increases the percentage of young adults and children will slightly decrease. Activity 3: Japanese Baby Bust 1. Can you see evidence of the postwar baby bust' After comparing the population structure for several years, I did notice a big change in population for males and females. I also noticed that after 100 years that the population will decrease tremendously from 125 million people to 48 million people. 2. What has happened to fertility rates in Japan in recent years' In recent years the fertility rate has decreased somewhat. Babies are being born but the population size in steadily decreasing. 3. If you were a demographer, what advice or concerns would you have for Japan’s government in planning for the future' I would have great concern for their future. If they continue on this way they will eventually become extinct. The government needs to find out what may have a negative influence or impact on fertility rates in their country. Lab Summary Address the following points in a 100-to 200-word summary: • Summarize the general principles and purpose of the lab. • Explain how this lab helped you better understand the topics and concepts addressed this week. • Describe what you found challenging about this lab. • Describe what you found interesting about this lab. The general purpose of this lab is to describe how geographic size and location, level of economic development, government policies, and religious practices can all impact a countries population numbers, age structure, fertility rates, and mortality rates. This lab helped me to understand how generations of families are formed and how certain criteria can have a positive or negative effect on population growth. I did not find anything challenging about this lab, and I really enjoyed learning about the different population structures of each country. The most interesting thing I learned was that China has a strict policy on child bearing. I could not imagine living in a place where the government can dictate how many children you have.
