Project proposal and management Identification and exploration of the needs Identification of the need to develop the project The Automatic cat feed The automatic cat feeder will ensure that busy schedules and long work hours will not prevent pet owners from consistently implementing, portion controlled servings of food to their pets. What: An automatic cat feeder that feeds pets at a regular interval each day with a certain amount of food being dispensed each time. Who: The automatic cat feeder will be used by pet owners who either need to leave their pets at home alone for short periods of time or do not have time during the day to feed their pets at regular intervals throughout the day. When: This product will be used when pet owners have a busy schedule and need to leave there pets at home for a short time or if they are at home but to busy to be able to feed their pets at a regular interval each day. Why: Often it is not easy to find someone to come and feed your pet each day when you go away, but with an automatic cat feeder they will only need to find someone to check in on the pet every 2nd day or so and make sure they are fine. It is envisaged that the pet feeder will include: -Rotating wheels -motor -Fishing line (or similar) -wood Motivation The motivation for the pet feeder came when my family was debating who to ask to feed our pets while we went away. As the pets needed to be fed daily, it was a large task to burden any friends or family with and therefore we didn’t end up going for fear of hassling our fellow friends and family. Therefore an automatic pet feeder would solve the problem of troubling others. This project is also being designed to improve the aesthetics of the home and provide entertainment for when the pets get particularly bored, partially preventing them from being destructive while no one is home. Purpose The automatic pet feeder is designed to prevent pet owners from stressing over their pets food consumption, which may be hard to maintain during busy times by daily providing the pet with food consistently throughout the day. Use of the project upon completion Upon completion the pet feeder will be used as an added feature to any persons home that owns a pet. It will only be for the use and benefit of the owner. Target audience The automatic cat feeder will be used by pet owners who either need to leave their pets at home alone for short periods of time or do not have time during the day to feed their pets at regular intervals throughout the day. Areas of investigation What has to be investigated and how' Walls and wheels These will be made from some kind of timber panels or rendered boards. An investigation into suitable durable non-poisonous wood needs to be conducted at a timber yard. If no suitable timber can be found alternatively a non-poisonous rendered finish of lacer could be utilized. Plastics This will be used for the bowl that the food gets dispensed into and the food dispenser itself. The capacity of both bowl and dispenser needs to be calculated depending on how much food each needs to hold, this will be conducted through experimentation and correction if needed. Also the material needs to be non-toxic for an animal to eat food off. Motors
