Another link of PCOS has on the endocrine system is the fact that the body becomes insulin resistance. Excess insulin hinders the metabolism of the body to breakdown sugar, starches and other foods into energy for usage or storage. Integumentary disorders or skin issues associated with PCOS vary from woman to woman. Some symptoms include oily skin, dandruffs and acne. Skin patches that is thick in texture, black or dark brown in coloration. Excessive skin flaps on the neck or armpits known as skin tags. One last effect is the increased growth of hair on the face, chest, stomach, back, thumbs or toes referred to as hirsutism.
Risk issues of PCOS on the cardiovascular system can be detrimental. The developing health problems are high blood pressure, high levels of bad cholesterol and low levels of the good cholesterol. Women that battle with PCOS are at a greater risk to suffering heart attacks and strokes in comparison to women of the same age range that don’t have PCOS.
Women of childbearing age main concern would be how PCOS is so negative on the reproduction system. The menstrual cycle is irregular or absent. Therefore, the eggs don’t fully mature to proceed into ovulation. Instead they start to grow and build fluid that never releases. PCOS is now the number one cause of female fertility. If pregnancy is achieved there are higher risk of miscarriages, gestational diabetes, pre-eclampsia and even premature deliveries.
No cures exist for PCOS but you may treat it in various ways. Health management starts with an adequate diet of fresh fruits, vegetables, lean proteins and whole grains. Lifestyle changes such as no smoking, drinking, and a faithful exercise regimen. Also, different medications are used in assistance birth control pills to regulate hormones, metformin to get insulin levels in check, clomid and gonadotropins for the ovulation therapy.
In conclusion, ovaries filled with multiple follicular cysts that contain a buildup of fluids known as PCOS plays several roles upon a woman’s body. Even though it’s an endocrine disorder it has detrimental activity among integumentary, cardiovascular and reproductive systems as well. PCOS may seem to start off minor but the more symptoms a woman acquires with this disorder can carry a major impaction on her health. It’s important when a woman finds out she has this condition she is ready to make the necessary modifications to live a healthy lifestyle by engaging in good eating habits and becoming more active.
