Running head: DEFINING MARKETING PAPER Defining Marketing Paper University of Phoenix Defining Marketing Paper Marketing has existed since the beginning of time, starting with the caveman carving a wheel out of stone. Marketing surrounds society from various perspectives: buying current videos for children or buying the newest cell phone to the latest and greatest high definition television. Consisting of promoting and selling of products, the field of marketing entails more meaningful methods. Therefore, understanding what marketing is, how it works, what is the product or service, and who does the marketing. Marketing consisting of internal and external plans that helps businesses become successful by focusing on communication with customers about goods and services of a product. This paper will provide defining marketing from three sources, and provide the significance of marketing in a business environment along with supported examples. Marketing is one of human life that will cease to exist and the idea is not clear to everyone, so I have included the following definitions: "Marketing behaviors are all those related with recognizing specific desires and requirements customers, and going about satisfying those customers through market research, analyzing, making strategic decisions about producing product, pricing, promotion and distribution" ("What Is Marketing," n.d.). “Marketing is the process of possible customers in products and services.” In this is process, marketing involves researching, promoting, selling, and distributing products, or services." ("Marketing," n.d.) My personal definition is presenting a picture, song or idea to capture customer’s attention of a specific product, but mostly advertising. From resent studying, marketing does not guarantee a sell, but create the thoughts of those goods and services that reminds or makes one think about the products. Producing and promoting a product, accurate pricing and place of the product are tasks having a successful business. An organizational success or failure based on marketing. Marketing creates revenue in a business that promotes potential external partnership for current and future investments. The marketing business constantly changes as competition arises and falls as new business emerge. Importance of Organizational Success Organizational success is very important for a business to have. The importance of survival is taking time and thought in which the demand grows for what businesses are trying to sell. With today’s ups and downs in the economy affects the marketing field. Marketing planned and incorporated across the whole organizational structure. The importance is being cost-effective, offensive, and not defensive, integrated with strategic and effective attributes in a business are reasons for a marketing plan. This way marketing can influence people among social and managerial methods through an exchange process. The individuals making the plan known as marketers provide management with a systematic innovative way of thinking, better coordination, and growth of performance, sharpened goals and strategies and enhanced trained for unexpected expansions. Planning consist of a series of questions: SWOTT (strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, threat, and trends), business overview, product description, research, position, budget, and control that must be addressed before starting. In any business, marketing needs to be a core concern and often tends to occur when running a successful business. Examples One example would be a therapist starting a business. First define the service meaning the type of therapy like massage therapy. Identify potential and ideal customer’s maybe women with a certain income. Next recognize the competition. Once the business opens ensure consistency, credible, and focus that leads to a successful career. Another example is Starbucks’. Starbucks’ has a magnificent marketing strategy. Marketing increased business with more than 10,000 stores and continuous demand and growth. Starbucks has commercials and ads in common surrounding areas that promote products. The CEO Howard Schultz focus is time management of customers creating an increase in frequency. Cutting costs in delivery and management costs saved millions in revenue. With today’s economy the Internet has become the hottest line of communication. Google being another example is one of the most used search engines online. Online features and resources attract the Internet community worldwide making the business a billion dollar industry. Conclusion Essential to everyday living, marketing is like oxygen to the human body. Comprehending the surroundings, the foundation and its way of thinking recognizes the importance of marketing. The functionality and requirement for marketing is a starting point in comprehending the principle and relationship to enhancements in the economy with consumer purchasing control.
