Define Marketing Paper Marketing is the main focus on this paper. Defining the word marketing needs reviewing first, so one can have a better understanding of the concept of marketing. Second, explaining the concept of marketing toward an organizations success needs reviewing. Last, providing examples from the business world to support discoveries in marketing strategies needs reviewing. Marketing, one’s own way to promote a product or idea in a manner that will sell it to a customer. The main idea in the definition of marketing consists of the word process. Marketing involves researching, promoting, selling, and distributing one’s products or services. Marketing the process of interesting potential customers and clients in one’s products and services is essential. Essentially, marketing involves everything one does to bring a potential customer and a product or service together. When one puts together a marketing program for the business, one should concentrate on the marketing basics, the four key components of any marketing plan follows: products and services, promotion, distribution, and pricing. The heart of marketing consists of attracting and retaining a growing base of satisfied customers. One creating and then implementing a marketing plan keeps the marketing efforts focused and increases ones marketing success (Ward, 2010). Marketing, is the activity, set of institutions, and processes for creating, communicating, delivering, and exchanging offerings that have value for customers, clients, partners, and society at large (Marketing Power, 2010). In dissecting the key terms in the definition shows marketing’s primary focus consists of identifying and satisfying customers in a way that helps build a solid and sustaining relationship that encourages customers to continue doing business with the marketer (Know This LLC, 1998-2010). No one way best defines marketing, but whatever definition one uses should have an orientation that focuses on the key to marketing success being customers. Marketing consists of the strategies and tactics used in identifying, creating, and maintaining satisfying relationships with customers who result in value for both the customer and the marketer (Know This LLC, 1998-2010). What it comes down to, is marketing consists of everything one does to place a product or service into the hands of a potential customer. Based on the definition’s given in paper, explaining the importance of marketing in an organizations success needs reviewing next. Thriving corporations in the world today face many challenges. Because of the challenges this affects how long an organization may last, even ones thriving and profiting struggle daily to maintain status quo. Marketing is a vital component of the prosperity of organizations. Marketing strategies include obtaining new clients, branding, and influencing behavior, these tactics need performing to encourage sales. Marketing usually targets specific consumer populations depending on the merchandise type. For example, Coca-Cola being the United States-based soda Beverage Company, their target community consists of the global society. This excludes no one. However, Gerber products are infant specific and target new parents and caregivers alike. Whether the consumers target large or small groups the importance of understanding exactly who the intended buyers are is important to market victoriously. An interesting fact about marketing goods and services purchased does affect everyone who consumes because this already incorporates the price of the merchandise. So consumers pay for the marketing costs of purchased goods (OPPapers, 2010). Another example of marketing in an organization is from Wal-Mart, when they want to promote an event they go through quite a few market planning strategies to promoting the event, such as ads on TV, and ads on the radio, billboards in their stores. Customers line up hours in advance for events scheduled and Wal-Mart has items to give away to promote what they are selling. This causes the prices for games, movies, or even cds singers are promoting to cost higher prices for a while, so they can make their money back from the event. Important degree is arguable based on the industry, but no business survives without giving some thought to the way in which one grow demand for what one sells. In many businesses, marketing needs to be the core concern, and often the overriding concern running a successful business. Marketing is about the strategies and tactics one uses in identifying and cultivating the market for one’s products or services, so it seems very important to organizational success (Yahoo! Inc, 2010). In conclusion, marketing is as essential to an organization as water is to plants. The importance in understanding the background, foundation, and mentality that identifies the significance of marketing needed reviewing in the paper.
