What were the major developments in the evolution of mass media during the 20th century' | Some of the major developments of mass media in the 20th century were "Morse code", television, radio’s, newspapers, and the telephone. When Morse code came to be, it was the fastest way to send a message across long distances. Many people had learned Morse code to be able to deliver messages as a form of a telegram. Then The telephone was invented. The telephone made it even easier to call someone and talk to them instead of waiting for an answer the telegram. This later led to the creation of cell phones. Before televisions there was the radio. This was one of the main forms of entertainment. There was music that played on the radio but it was mainly talk shows and stores that were read over the radio. Newspapers have been around for a long time, they were the only way to communicate with the community as a whole. Television's is what changed everything. At first the television was black and white and not owned by the general public, only those with a lot of money could afford the new technology. Once it became affordable for more families to have it was a source for the news. A few years after the black and white TV's there was the invention of the colored television. Then came the invention of the computer, which was too large to fit into any household and was mostly used by the government. After that came the Apple computer, this was still large, but was made for the household. Ever since there has been a new version of the television and computer. They have come a long way. First getting smaller and then having larger viewing screens such as plasma and flat panels. Today's development of technology will keep advancing and making it easier to view the things the public wants to see on TV, radio or on the computer. |
How did each development influence American culture' | Entertainment on media has had a large impact on American culture. From music to movies, our culture has been heavily influenced by the entertainment world. Entertainment media introduced many people to different fashion, eating styles, and different ways of views on lifestyles, music, religion, and health. The things that are shown through movies, music, and TV, such as advertising or designer clothes, has influenced what people are buying and wearing. The cars that are featured in movies influence the type of cars that people want to buy. Many other things advertised in movies, radio, and television influence culture today. Movies and TV shows allow individuals a chance to experience other identities and rethink what they know or think already. It allows the person to sometimes identify with their own personal experiences and maybe to realize dreams and possibilities and can influence a person to go for their dreams or convince them that they are unrealistic. The influence of entertainment media could spark ideas that lead to a change in the culture by opening others up to another point of view. Entertainment media can give life to a number of social changes. While America was still within racism, movies with black actresses and actors began to immerge. These movies eventually began to show a different side of African Americans as the tide of racism and slavery began to turn such as movies that A big part of entertainment media today is the music that we here on the radio. Music is influencing the youth more than ever before. The children are hearing songs about partying and having fun and they want to follow suit. Likewise, they are listening to music about violence and sex and there is more crime in our culture than ever before. Entertainment media influences both a positive and a negative impact on today’s culture and society. |
