Abstract
The paper will consist of comparing three poetry selections and analyze the relationship between language and content. The three poems will also deal with poetic techniques and the relationship between a workplace and the poem. The three poems that will be analyzed in this paper are Factory Jungle by Jim Daniels, The Rope by Patricia Dobler, and 5000 Apply for 100 Jobs by Jim Daniels.
Comparative Analysis Paper-Poetry
Each poem is written to view a certain perspective. In the three poems the poems relate to the workplace or workforce. One can relate to the poems because the poems are what one is force to deal with on a daily. Each poem has a unique way that is different from each other. As one looks at the poems one can imagine and place his or herself in the poem. The poems are: Factory Jungle, The Rope, and 5000 Apply for 100 Jobs. Then poems each have a language and a content that will portray the poems in different ways.
As one analyzes Factory Jungle by Jim Daniels one can see that the poet use of general language of the occupation of working in a factory. The poet uses the language of the factory occupation to portray the life of a factory worker. The language also consists of a hard worker who is tired and in a rut of a routine. The content of the poems deals with the life of a factory work that is in a constant routine. The poet portrays the poem to relate to life and a job of a factory worker to be relentless. The factory worker is eager to break the routine of working on one machine and not able to work in different place and see more of the factory other than the machine the factory works on in a daily basis. The poet used techniques such as metaphors to relate4 to the tireless days and constant routines that happen in a factory. The poet used the technique to relate his message in a manner that one can relate to in his or her own way.
In the poem The Rope by Patricia Dobler one can see the language of the poet to be sowerful yet realistic. The content of the poem is about a man who works hard to give his wife everything she could imagine yet he seems disbelief when she says she is happy with what she has. The poet is very realistic in what she is stating in the poem. One can be a hard worker who works for a better life and seems never to reach his or her satisfaction or approval of the significant other. The poet uses many similes in the poem as a technique to obtain her message across to the reader.
In the Last poem 5000 apply for 100 Jobs by Jim Daniels is very realistic especially in today’s times. The language portrayed here are one that one can relate to in his or her life. Today’s world is contain many jobless people who once were major money makers who have nothing. The poets language is so realistic one can say that he or she is one of the 5000 applying for 100 jobs. The content of the poem is jobs are hard to come by no matter how many jobs are out there one cannot be sure he or she will obtain the job because of the high unemployment rate. One can only be happy with the job he or she has even if it is minimum wages because there are so many that do not have jobs. The poet uses metaphors as a technique to perceive his message across to the readers.
Each poem has a unique technique that allows the poet to express emotion, metaphors and similes to help the reader to obtain the message the poet is trying to portray to the reader. Each poem was about the workforce but looked at the workforce in a different way from each other. Each poem took the workforce a looked at the workforce under a microscope to have feelings of a factory worker, a hardworking trying to satisfy his significant other, and the unemployment rate and thankful for obtaining a job no matter what the pay is. One can relate to the poems at one time in his or her life.
