Communication and Collaboration
In every group, it is expected to find individuals with different personality types and different learning styles. Dealing with a team needs efficient strategies for communicating and collaborating effectively. An overall understanding of personality types and learning styles will help in developing appropriate strategies.
The three learning styles that to discuss are Interpersonal, Intrapersonal and Logical-Mathematical. Interpersonal style is passive and offers support. After completing the “Multiple Pathways to Learning and the Personality” assessments, I realized that my learning style is Interpersonal. It is this style that is ideal for a group setting. This would be the person who may jump in to resolve conflict and keep the group on the right track. An interpersonal style person is the outgoing person on the team that helps everyone feel comfortable and would be the one that other group members may come to for help.
The complete opposite of the Interpersonal style would be the Intrapersonal. This is the person who would prefer to work on his own. An Intrapersonal style would be the person that the team lead may just delegate a specific duty to be done.
The last style to discuss is the Logical-Mathematical style. This style is the most dominant style in a group setting. This person analyzes the information and uses a systematic approach to thinking. Although others may debate and have conflict, the logical person only believes what has been proven fact. This is a good member to have on a team.
The best way to for effective collaboration among all members of a group is to find the strengths of each individual. The intrapersonal style could be the person responsible for gathering information. The Logical-Mathematical person should be the one who will research facts, while the Interpersonal team member can bring all styles together to complete the project. Offering tasks that encourage the use of sense of leadership would be helpful for the entire team.
My dominant personality type is an Organizer. Some characteristics of an organizer are reliability, efficient, and detail oriented. Organizers also work well within a team setting.
I compare the Thinker type to the Intrapersonal style and the Mathematical-Logical style. These styles share a few of the same learning techniques. This type works well independently, very analytical, and learn through problem solving.
The Giver type is the nurturer and is a good person to have on any team. This person will bring out the best qualities in everyone.
Conclusion
In order to have a phenomenal dynamic on any team, it is necessary to have different learning styles and types. These different individuals in the group will bring different ideas and processes that will help with the best results. Whether its school, work or personal life, different views can always help.
