Communication and Collaboration Strategy of Different Learning Styles and Personality Types for Learning Teams
Working with a learning team will sometimes require working with different learning styles and personality types. Some of which may not all gel together instantly and may cause conflict among team members. It is imperative that the team recognize that there are differences in both personality and learning styles and find a way to productively converse and work in partnership with one another. Doing so will aid in the collective purpose of the team and lead to ultimate success.
DIFFERENT LEARNING STYLES
Within the group one may find three different learning styles. Finding the characteristics of these learning techniques would be quite beneficial. For example the team may contain verbal linguistic, musical, visual spatial personalities.
A verbal linguistic person typically loves words and language. They speak well, retain information and have the capability of persuading someone of their point of view. Effective ways of having a productive relationship with this team member is to speak knowledgeably about the material being worked on by the group. Have some of the information in writing. Incorporate articles, stories, and books into the team projects. Allow them to speak and explain their position on different topics.
Musical personalities think in sound, rhythms and patterns. Music plays an important role in their lives. This person could develop a musical score for a presentation that the team has. Bring in music when the team meets or go somewhere it’s being played and the musical personality will come up with some of their best ideas.
Some of the best ways to communicate with a visual spatial person would be to use charts, graphs, pictures, videos or movies. This would enable the team member to see the subject matter that they are dealing with. The group should utilize this person’s artistic abilities.
DIFFERENT PERSONALITY TYPES
Most times learning teams will contain various personality types. There may be a giver, thinker, and an organizer. When communicating with a giver understand that they work well with others. The giver will spent time teaching the group things that they do not understand. They want everyone to succeed and will give up their time to ensure it.
An organizer likes to plan and need clear directions to do well. This team member needs structured environments. Tentative meeting will not work for the organizer. Things just about have to be written in stone. The organized learner will make sure that all of the work for the group is precise and presentable.
The thinker will be the one to analyze everything that. Logical thinking is the only way to go for them. Everything must make sense or it’s not right. Trust the thinker to have correct facts and relay them to everyone else. Thinkers suggest different ideas for the group and try to come up with the best options.
All of the team members can work together efficiently if everyone has something to do those they I know how to do well. Once the team learns the other member’s personalities and learning styles the group should be successful.
