Ashleigh Blake October 15, 2011 English 1101 Smith The Committer vs. the Non-Committer There are many types of women in the world, and each type displays a variety of distinguishable characteristics. Men should become aware of these characteristics before considering a prospective mate. The smallest of personal details, from where and how they met (including the first date), the way she walks and talks, the clothes she wears, the career choice she's made, the vacation spots she frequents, or the automobile she drives can offer valuable, meaningful, insightful clues to whether or not a woman will ever settle down with anyone. There are two main types of women in the world: the committer and the non-committer. The committer is serious about finding the right man. She asks friends and relatives for introductions. She is usually open to blind dates and avoids the bar scene when looking for a quality man. On the first date, she is polite and will not bring up the subject of money at the restaurant. She takes her to places where they can talk one-on-one. The non-committer is just looking for a man. There is no room in her life for the man. She, on the other hand, loves the bar scene. She usually finds a million excuses why she can't find the right man and uses such excuses to explain why she is still unattached. On a date, she orders trendy food such as sushi to impress her date, and she monopolizes the conversation. She may even take him to places where there is no chance for good conversation such as a club or a party. The committer likes to share equally in conversation. She asks questions and actually listens to the answers. She is generally open about her past and is willing to share more personal details as time goes on. She is willing to meet his family and introduces his to hers. The committer also formalizes her plans. She'll say, "Let's have dinner on Wednesday," or "I'll call you tomorrow afternoon." The non-committer, however, is usually supporting too many other extracurricular activities to be available. She does the talking while he does the listening. She usually has to work late which means she won't be able to make it for his mom's pot roast dinner invitation. When they speak to each other, she leaves him feeling like things are up in the air. While walking away, she yells things over her shoulder like, "Talk to you soon" or "I'll call you later." The committer maintains a very basic wardrobe. She tends to be neat, casual and conservative. She often has a closet full of nice jeans and button up shirts. She wears sweaters and cardigans, and her Ugg boots are a must. The non-committer dresses to impress. She wears seductive and flashy things more often than the committer, has more than one slinky black dress, at least one silk robe, and shoes in an array of colors. She likes lingerie and loves her running shoes because they enable her to make a quicker getaway. The committer drives a simple car or SUV. He likes Jeeps, Explorers, and Japanese-made cars because of their proven resale value and uncompromising dependability. The non-committer is all too obvious when it comes to her automobile. She drives a flashy vehicle such as a Porsche, Corvette, BMW, or Ferrari. Each type is reflected in the vehicle chosen. The committer has a career that enables her to help others. She will likely be a teacher, attorney, nurse, computer programmer, banker, veteranarian, or police officer. She will claim she's too busy for vacations, but probably just doesn't want to go alone. She enjoys trips to see family, dinner with friends, or even a weekend at Disney World. Unlike the committer, the non-committer is likely to be a doctor, photographer, writer, model, salesperson, or actress, and she always makes time for getaways. She loves Sandals Resort & Spa, wine-tasting in the Italian countryside, a delightful getaway to Paris, or anywhere exciting and flashy. The committer likes good entertainment. She enjoys old movies with good plots, loves reading all kinds of books, and participates in the community bowling league. The non-committer just likes entertainment, good or bad. She’ll watch any movie with Angelina Jolie, Sharon Stone, or Demi Moore in the credit lineup. She has many books in places they can be seen, but more than likely hasn't read one in its entirety. This woman sticks to US Weekly and Cosmopolitan because they're brief, to the point, require little time, and give valuable tips and hints to looking good. The non-committer rarely participates in sports. She prefers solo activities such as getting a manicure and pedicure, going to a day spa, or a workout at the gym where she can be seen wearing his newest designer labels. Initially, the non-committer and the committer may mimic each other, on the surface, that is. The good news is that with a little insight, respect for one's own intuition and values, willingness to observe without proverbial blinders on, and a basic understanding of the silent messages behind the words and actions of a prospective mate, it is possible for a man to find a legendary dream-come-true soul mate.
