What are you doing to ensure you remain an ethical and honest student' To make sure that I remain an ethical and honest student I make sure I know and abide by the most current rules of the University. I give myself plenty of time to do my school work so that I do not have to resort to cheating. If I come across something that I feel is hard or challenging I am comfortable in knowing that I can reach out to my teacher or one of my advisors. I feel that if there is anything I don’t fully understand it is important to seek help from the before I continue with class not knowing what is going on. I definitely do not plagiarize anyone’s work not only when writing a paper but even during the discussion questions because even the littlest thing matters when you are stealing someone else’s work. When turning in an assignment I always make sure I turn in the certificate of originality to say that I am turning in my own work. Chapter 2, Section 1.1 of Writing for Success provides information about verbs. List the difference between a linking verb and an action verb. Use at least one example of each type of verb in a sentence. An action verb is a word that is the center of the predicate and that expresses an action or activity. An action verb is a verb that describes an action like run, jump, eat, kick, cry, break, or think. Examples of action verbs in sentences: Peter is kicking the ball. She accepted my apology. The wind blows constantly in Chicago.   A verb that connects or links the subject of a sentence to a noun or adjective is a linking verb. Linking verbs do not describe action. In some cases verbs are always linking verbs because they never describe an action. In other situations verbs can be linking verbs in some sentences and action verbs in other sentences. One way to determine if the verb is acting as an action verb or a linking verb is to substitute the word is for the verb in question. If the sentence still makes sense than it is more than likely a linking verb. Examples of linking verbs in sentences: Jessica appeared injured after the accident. The pie smells good. The man grew silent. List at least one of the serious writing errors identified in Ch. 2, Section 1 of Writing for Success and identify how such an error could negatively affect your writing. On page 385 one of the serious writing errors I found was run-on sentences. In general run-on sentences are hard to understand. These sentences are so long that it makes readers lose their focus and this means that the main ideas will not be understood. A run-on sentence has two or more main clauses that run together and do not have proper punctuation. Another one of the serious writing errors that I found was fragments. A sentence that doesn’t have a subject or a verb is a fragment sentence. In a fragment sentence you only get part of the idea because either the subject or the verb is missing so it is not a complete idea. It is important to always proofread your work to make sure you catch any mistake you may have made like this so that everything you write makes sense to everyone that is reading it. Identify which of the four most serious writing errors listed in Ch. 2, Section 1 of Writing for Success you find challenging to overcome in your own writing. State a method to avoid this error. In my own writing I have the most difficult time trying to overcome run-on sentences. I have taken the time to think about what would be the best way to overcome this and improve my writing. One thing that I found to be helpful was to use proper punctuation especially when it comes to commas.  I really had to do some research to make sure that I was placing the commas correctly. The commas didn’t help at all with the length but it did break the sentences down into segments and make them easier to understand. Another method I use that I feel really helps a lot is to read a sentence out loud after I have it written down in front of me. This allows me to see the sentence as the reader would and lets me know if it would make sense to them or not. This helps me to find the errors in my writing and adjust them accordingly.
