In the north, religion was the most important part of every day life. In the south, the wealthier you were, the more you had a say so in everyday life. Lumber and fishing was the most important and common industry in the North and farming was the most common industry in the south. Both the north and the south were democratic, even though the north was run by the church and the south was run by the wealthy. In both the north and the south, the women were treated as inferior to the men. They were not as educated as the men. Both the north and south relied on the resources of their land, which in the south it was farming and in the north it was lumber and fishing.
