The Collaboration Final Paper Unit 6 Robin Hull Kaplan University The Collaboration Final Paper Skills for Success “Doing more of the same things you’ve done in the past only better and faster will not necessarily help you get to where you want to go in the future (Caproni, 2005, p. 7)”. Managers come to companies or organizations with big ideas, solid educational backgrounds and a strong desire to succeed, many of them have little if any practical management experience. According to the Center for Creative Leadership, almost half never reach their full potential (Caproni, 2005, p. 3). These managers do not reach their full potential because they have limited self awareness, they are closed minded and do not see how others perceive them, and tend to use a textbook type management blanket that covers everyone in every situation. These derailed managers learn three important lessons, intelligence isn’t enough for the long term, early talents that lead to small successes are not enough, and finally flaws and blind spots that seemingly did not matter early in their career now makes matter (Caproni, 2005). Now we see why managers often do not succeed, so what does help them to succeed' Successful manager are proactive, goal oriented, they use creative and practical intelligence, emotional intelligence, and positive emotions. Successful managers must be able to manage a diverse workforce in a decentralized, global and boundary less organization (Caproni, 2005). In today’s environment the ability to have a learning orientation, to think broadly from a wide variety of perspectives, and the willingness to learn new skills are some of the most important sills a manager can have (Caproni, 2005, p. 25). Communicating with Integrity “No one would talk much in society if they knew how often they misunderstood others.”- Johann Wolfgang Von Goethe. Communication is the exchange and flow of information and ideas from one person to another. Effective communication occurs only if the receiver understands the exact information or idea the sender is transmitting ("Communication", 1997). References Caproni, P. J. (2005).
