This writer is currently employed as a Deputy Court Clerk with Milwaukee County. Milwaukee County Criminal Division of the Clerk of Courts provides services to the First Judicial District Courts by making sure the courts are ran in a professional manner. In the course of conducting business, various conflicts will arise. In this paper, this writer will explain what conflicts are, the different types of conflict, and the different styles of management used to handle these conflicts. My personal style of management will be shown according to the assessment tool that was taken from the Organizational Behavior 7th addition book. The style contradicted by the assessment will be discussed along with the different styles of management within the Clerk of Courts, Criminal Division but how the style that is used may be more effective.
There are different types of conflict that will be dealt with in many different ways. There is no one style that is better than the other. Every agency has their own style and their own way in which they choose to maintain control within the agency and with their employees. Everyone has their own unique style in how conflict will be dealt with. Conflict is one issue that cannot be avoided. Unfortunately, every agency has to deal with some type of conflict no matter how they try to avoid it. In order for management to deal with any conflicts within there agency, they have to have the ability to empathize with all parties that are involved. They also have to be able to come up with some type of resolution that will bring some relief to the situation.
There are conflicts that occur within organizations whenever there is a difference of opinion between groups of people. There are numerous things that people will have a disagreement about. These things include but are not limited to policies and procedures, the direction the company is going, and distribution of rewards. There are two different types of conflicts. One is substantive conflict which is a fundamental disagreement over goals or ends that are to be pursued. The other type of conflict is emotional conflict. This is a conflict that involves interpersonal difficulties that arise from feelings of anger, mistrust, fear, and resentment. This is a conflict that occurs when there are two or more people that are not seeing eye to eye or are simply not getting along with each other for one reason or another. Many people hate confrontations and conflict and try to avoid them. However, we have to realize that in the workforce, there are going to be differences in opinion. The only way to minimize the tension that comes from these types of conflicts is to deal with the situation right away. When conflict is dealt with right away and it is acknowledged, it helps reduce a lot of issues that could arise when conflict goes unresolved.
This paper explained what conflicts are and the two different types of conflicts. This paper also listed each style of management that are used to deal with conflict and which styles work best from the writers point of view. It was also explained which style is used by my organization and what style I used personally according to the assessment tool in the Organizational Behavior Workbook 7th addition. It was a pleasure learning more about the different styles of managing conflict while writing this paper. It is the desire of this writer to be able to recognize conflict whenever it happens and use a style of management that will best resolve the issues that are causing the conflict.
Every company deals with some sort of conflict everyday. In order to deal with conflict management will also need to have the ability to empathize with the individuals involved in order to come to some sort of resolution. Another aspect of resolution is the importance of aspects to ones self. Is the conflict at hand important to you' If it is dealing with company matters of course it is. It affects your job performance as well as the success of the company. There are five major styles of conflict that a company may choose to deal with but the most proficient ones are the one’s who cater differently to each conflict issue.
