Club IT (page 1) Club IT- Part One By Sandra Bettis December 3, 2010 BIS/219 Club IT (page 2) Club IT is a new nightclub that is located downtown, owned by Lisa Tejada and Ruben Keys. This nightclub has just been remodeled with high ceilings and energy lighting which both Lisa and Ruben are very happy with the results. Club IT is a place where there is a lot of energy and people can meet to have fun dancing, eat, listen to good music, and relax with some friends. Club It has a small short order kitchen that makes some appetizers and a bar that serves drinks. The club has a variety of music. The club’s schedule is Monday thru Thursday, hiring different DJs to play all types of music like: hip hop, techno, electronica, and some oldies. On Friday and Saturday nights, Club IT has a live band. This essay will give a description of Club ITs mission, primary clientele, the difference in roles of IT departments has, hoe they managed their information resources, and what strategy has the advantage that will benefit the business. Discussing all the different information resources that can also manage the database used to organize the Club It information. Lisa and Ruben’s mission is clarified: they offer a variety of music and drinks to cater to everyone’s lifestyle and want to build a community of friends and families that meet at the club regularly. Club IT is a terrific place to the physical eye; they are lacking the IT department. Lisa and Ruben have hired me to help give them a full analysis of their information needs. Club IT has a clientele of people from all over the world and of many age groups of single, married, male or female. This people are looking for a fun place to listen to music and have fun or just eat and drink as they wait for the entertainment to start then as the night goes on. Club IT uses an intranet system; this is a private network that the employees and the owners of the club can access. Although, this is an excellent resource for the club, it needs some changes made so it can be more successful. First, there needs to be a tighter security that gives each employee their own username and password which will give each employee access to just their information and not any of the other employees’ information but at the same time Lisa and Ruben can access from their computers all the club’s information. This hold only one employee reliable if there is a problem instead of putting the blame on everyone until there is an investigation done. This will save a lot of valuable time and headaches for everyone. This technique will also help evaluate the employees of Club IT. Example: If one employee logs into a register using his or her individual username and password, not only does this keep track of that employee’s sales but also how effective they are with their time on the clock. Another words, are they keeping busy taking tables or are they standing around doing nothing. Secondly, the next main issue is how they manage their information resources. Club IT needs to hire CIO but just starting out; they will need to be trained to manage the information. I think Lisa and Ruben should be actively involved in IT. Club IT (page 3) They would need to see total sales, inventory, time sheets, and ect. of the club. This will allow them to know the necessary information to order the right amount of supplies and food and how much to order for that week or night. Club IT’s best strategy for competitive advantage is customer orientation. Ruben and Lisa have many different ways to be cost efficient and customer oriented. One step would be to break down the clientele. This will tell what types of people attend Club IT. This also determines the different music and food different people like. This gives Ruben and Lisa a better idea on how to schedule inventory and what is the more popular music. Then Ruben and Lisa can have a dashboard installed which would be linked to their computers. The dashboard could track each sale and its time, so Ruben and Lisa can plan for something like half price drinks between four and seven. This will help business productivity. In conclusion, a business without a strong IT department can have many mistakes that can be too costly and cause many problems within the business. I think no matter how small or large the business is, there are always needs for an IT department. Ruben and Lisa made a wise business choice to have an intern come in and start analyzing the business. I feel that if Lisa and Ruben use IT to their advantage, they can have a very successful nightclub. Club IT (page 4) References: Rainer, R.K., Turban, E. & Potter, R. E. (2008).
