Club IT Club IT is a nightclub run by Ruben Keys and Lisa Tejada. Ruben and Lisa are business savvy, and gain satisfaction from providing a fun and exciting place where people in the community can come together, enjoy good music, drinks, food, and each others company. While being successful in creating ambiance and entertainment, they have come to realize they need to improve upon the utilization of their information resources and the ability to use information technology in enhancing the customer experience, and expand business potential. Ruben and Lisa need help in implementing this new technology to improve costs, distinguishing their club from others, using various new innovations to enhance the customers experience, making the club’s operations more effective, and assisting the customer with information and services access. Ruben and Lisa, the owners of Club IT, have created a mission of providing a fun, and exciting place where friends and family can come together and enjoy music, drinks, light food, and each others company. Club IT provides a variety of live and recorded music, which attracts a large clientele. They have included entertainment styles that reach a broad client base that will range from friends looking for a good time together, entertaining business clients, college students, visitors from out of town, or people looking to socialize and meet new people while enjoying a fun and energetic environment. Club IT currently has an internal network that uses the Internet for a web page and various ordering and general operations. The club has a generalized password of “clubit”, which is creative, but too generic for internal use. Management understands information technology plays a critical role in running a successful business from ordering supplies, to making information about the club accessible for customers. Ruben and Lisa also know that proper management of the clubs information resources from entry point to business utilization of those resources is critical to their success and have the basic structures in place. Although information can be used for a variety of competitive advantage situations, Club IT can benefit from using, and adopting, a strategy based on operational effectiveness. Operational effectiveness is using technology to improve internal business processes so that ordinary internal business operations is improved enough to lower costs, improve quality of service and productivity, and increase satisfaction for both the customers and employees. In using this strategy Club IT will need to gather many forms of information to be effective. For example, by providing an effective website in which customers, and potential bands, can locate basic information about the club will be good. If customers can find the location, security, dress code, types of music played, what bands will be playing, drink specials, etc., this will improve customer satisfaction and provide more exposure for the club. Data security is important for production. Using “clubit” as a standard log in for internal use is very generic and can create security issues for management if it is easy to figure out. If Club IT were to use it as code for free online coupons, it not only creates name recognition, it gives customers a reason to go to the website. Ruben and Lisa will also want to gather as much data on customers as possible. Club IT will need to know what customers like and dislike. They will also want to gather data on suppliers and availability of products. Information on order entry and various methods of bill paying will be necessary. If waiters can input and process data easily for completion and final payment it will improve operations and improve satisfaction of both the employees and customers. Because Ruben and Lisa have taken the time to create an environment light and full of energy, the process of inputting data and structuring the information in a manner which is easily usable should be as unnoticeable as possible to the customer and staff. Ruben and Lisa have created an energetic and lively club that will attract a wide variety of clientele. Their business knowledge, love for music, and enjoyment of people is a great start to business success. By using their information resources in an effective manner, through various forms of information technology, Club IT should be a very successful business venture. Gathering information on customers likes and dislikes, entertainment options, supply ordering, internal order completion operations, payment options, etc., will be critical to making Club it more competitive and productive. Proper website design and use will give Club IT an upper hand on competition and improve the customer experience while creating good name recognition. Although there are many avenues Club it can take, adopting an operational effectiveness strategy should provide success in business for years to come.
