Club IT – Part 1
Club IT is the newest night club to hit the city. The owners, Ruben Keys and Lisa Tejada, have studied and prepared every way they could to make this dream come alive. While completing their degrees in Business Administration, they supported themselves by working as musicians in local night clubs nearby. Not only did they gain the nightclub experience, they also gained the knowledge needed to back up their dream. This duo seems ready to take on this challenge and make their dream grow and come alive. Their mission is to “offer you live music, DJ's, dance space and refreshments that suit your lifestyle” (Club IT, 2010, ¶ 4).
The building used for Club IT was chosen and renovated by the owners in a way they felt would produce high energy and fun. The club is 6,000 square feet with tall ceilings, has high energy lighting, seating for 220, a kitchen for appetizers, a bar, and 600 square feet for dancing. The layout of the club allows the dance floor to be the center of attention. This way, even if you want to sit and take a break or chat with friends, you will still be part of the action.
The club offers a variety of music, from hip-hop and techno, to the top 40s. This variety will bring in a variety of clients; everyone from their 20’s to their 40’s would enjoy this club, and be the most likely clientele ages. The only thing that slightly confuses me is their list of monthly music genres. Does local bands in January mean that only local bands music will be played, and only in the month of January' I feel the club needs to broaden their monthly outlook, or perhaps go into more detail on their site. I feel the club should instead have daily or weekly genres. For instance, every Friday night will alternate between local bands and world DJs. Every Saturday night can alternate between hip-hop and San Francisco bands, and so on. The site should have a monthly calendar posted with the music information so clients will know when their favorite music day will be. I think this would bring more people in on a weekly basis, rather than just focusing on the month. This would help Ruben and Lisa reach their mission of building “a community that meets regularly at Club IT" (Club IT, 2010, ¶ 4).
Club IT’s site uses enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems along with transaction processing systems (TPS) in order to keep all information available in one place, both for their clients and their employees. On the clientele side, you are able to view the company’s information, including who the owners are, the club layout, drinks and food available, buy merchandise, and see the schedule of music and events. Employees are able to log in and view their year to date information, employee information (such as employee of the month), download forms (such as an accident report), and view manuals (such as health and safety). Through logging in to the employee portal, you will see the TPS in work by producing the number of goods sold throughout the week. This way, the company is able to see which product is most popular, and keep their inventory probably stocked. Order forms are readily available with separate charts for beverages, food, and supplies to easily order what is needed. The forms also have a link to the suppliers’ site for easy access to the suppliers’ information.
The site has a good start to customer relationship management, although it could be improved. To start, more than the one customer touch point should be implemented into the site (the first one being the site itself). An email address or phone number to an automated system that allows clients to express directly to you what their concerns, questions, or what they enjoyed would be a beneficial way of seeing exactly what the clients need. A blog tab would allow clients to interact with each other, as well as allow you to see what they are discussing about the club. A VIP card could be offered to all clients who come in and through the web site. The VIP club would give you the client information, and keep track of when they are coming in and what they are doing. This will allow a more personal experience for the clients, by being invited to special events, receiving special discounts, or even sending out a “we miss you” card if they have not come by in a while.
Club IT is off to a great start with great potential. A little tweaking here and there will allow for better client experience, more sales, and perhaps a bigger name.
