Club IT Student Name University of Phoenix XBIS/219 Date Faculty Name Club IT The opening of Club IT, a fun and energetic downtown night club, is a dream come true for owners Ruben Keys and Lisa Tejada. Both, Ruben and Lisa have business knowledge backed by a Business Administration degree; and music experience from working as musicians to support themselves while in college. Their college years’ experiences in the form of studies and instrument performances at clubs only provided a partial background of what is needed to run a nightclub. As managers and owners of Club IT, the real challenge for Ruben and Lisa is to have functional systems in place that will help successfully operate their nightclub business, which is currently lacking in the areas of information technology, data management, and decision-making capabilities (Rainer & Turban, 2009). Club IT’s Mission and Clientele Club IT’s mission is to accommodate a lifestyle for people who enjoy live music, DJ’s, dancing, and refreshments. Fun and energetic type people seeking a night full of socializing can come to a music club, i.e., Club IT, that provides a total of 6,000 square feet of space, including a 600 square foot dance floor, a bar with four pour stations, and seating for 220 people, plus a kitchen to fulfill appetizers and small food orders. The night club is intended to be a place where the clientele are more than just customers to Ruben and Lisa; they are also the friends who will make up the social group frequently meeting at Club IT (Rainer & Turban, 2009). Club IT’s Functional Areas and Use of Information Resources Functional area information systems (FAISs) refers to the summarizing of data and preparation of reports which are primarily used by middle management but can also be useful for lower-level managers. These reporting systems, i.e., report generators (RPGs) are important because focus is placed on a specific functional area of a business (Rainer & Turban, 2009). Club IT’s FAISs are found on its web-site “Welcome to Club IT” home page by clicking on the left side Employee Portal tab. The Employee Portal left side tab is an employee only access area requiring user name and password login information. Management and employees can access this computer network with restricted access area, i.e., intranet to view reports under the Club IT info section. Club IT’s info section includes tabs for accessing Ordering spreadsheets and Sales and Budget reports. These types of reports are beneficial to a business such as Club IT because management and employees can successfully plan and budget resulting in meeting clientele needs. Club IT’s Organizational Information Systems Club IT’s organizational information systems can be clearly identified in its webpage because it is a common database area providing upfront details to clientele on how the club operates. Clientele can find information by clicking on the left side tabs, which provide specific details about the type of music played at the club, dining and menus, servicing staff, e.g., waiters, and even Club IT merchandise that can be purchased at a 10% discount for members. These capabilities represent Club IT’s enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems. ERP systems are the functional area of Information Systems (IS) through a common database, which improve communications in the functional areas of an organization such as Club IT (Rainer & Turban, 2009). Ruben Keys and Lisa Tejada are running a night club business that requires accurate planning and budgeting to successfully serve its Club IT clientele. As for any business owner, the purpose of running a business is to meet that ultimate business goal, which is to be profitable and successful. Ruben and Lisa both know that while they seem to be on the right track with their current organization operating systems, there is clearly a need for improvement in the area of information technology (IT), data management, and decision-making capabilities. For starters, they know there is a real need for a full analysis of Club IT’s information needs, which they plan to address with the help from a business professional, e.g., an intern.
