Introduction: Information Systems (IS) are a combination of hardware, software, and infrastructure that is used by personnel for the purpose of planning, controlling, coordinating, and making decisions. “It has been said that the purpose of information systems is to get the right information to the right people at the right time in the right amount and in the right format.” (Rainer & Turban, 2008, p. 6). In order to do this successfully, our company needs to know what type of information that we need and what we need to do to obtain successful operations in our business. IS and software applications in computers enable personnel to meet the company’s mission and objectives. Administrative processes such as word processing, spreadsheets, presentations, and database software management systems are used to deliver the right information in the right format. This memorandum will provide examples on types of software applications that our company’s Human Resources (HR), Accounting, and Marketing Departments use to perform their duties in reference to information systems. Atlas Business Solution’s Staff Files Pro software allows our HR department to prepare a wide range of staffing documentation including maintaining our employee personnel records. Employee personnel records can be tracked and stored in a single location instead of using a paper filing system. Paper files are very costly to track and time consuming to sort. Staff Files Pro also protects privacy and security of sensitive employee information. Additionally, Staff Files Pro allows us to create new HR documents such as job descriptions, company policy, company rules, and regulations. Information Technologies, Inc.’s BookWorks Accounting is an easy to use Windows- based accounting tool that gives us real time information about our clients and vendor financial information. This information gives management the advantage of making critical decisions about complex business decisions in a timely manner. This application will also manage core accounting processes such as maintaining the company’s general ledger, accounts receivable, payables, inventory, sales orders and invoices. Blue Martini Software’s Blue Martini Marketing is a software solution tool to analyze customer behavior and discover trends to find what products to bring to market. This software gives a picture of customer behavior patterns and insights on how to attract and retain high-value customers. Our company will use these insights to earn higher profits and maximize the return of investment of our working capital. Summary: The primary goals of our new information systems are to collect and process data from multiple sources that interoperate with one another and then sort our data to create useful business information. This information is shared and used by multiple divisions of our company. The information is then analyzed to develop critical business knowledge in a timely manner. Other IS goals are accomplished through software applications and personnel trained to access, retrieve, and process data into consolidated information streams useful which allows us to achieve the monetary and management objectives of our company.
