Claude Oscar Monet was born on November 14, 1840 in Paris, France. His parents were Claude-Adolphe, a grocery store owner, and Louise-Justine Aubree, a singer. Claude wasn’t the only child. He was the youngest son of two. Even at a young age Claude knew he had a passion of art. His father had a dream of him going into the family grocery business but his love for art was much more important.
Claude had no time to waste. Monet did not let his move Le Havre to stop him. He attended Le Havre school for the arts at the age of 11 in 1851. To begin his art career is started selling his charcoal paintings. Over the years he made a large number of artist friends. Jacques-Francois Ochard and Eugene Boudin taught Monet a few things their selves. For example Boudin taught Monet master oil paints and "plein air" techniques. Yet another move. The death of his mother caused him to move in wit his aunt.

Monet had some money situations and he decided to try to commit suicide. He wasn’t successful, even though he was going to leave his woman and child alone’ Camille stood by him. In 1870 they finally got married in June. They had their second son Michel. On September 5, 1879 Camille died from tuberculosis. In 1892 Monet remarried. To pursue his dream and different type of art Monet moved a lot. Everywhere he went he learned a new thing. His life was full of journeys and he shared it through his painting. Claude died in Giverny, France on December 5, 1926 from lung cancer.
Throughout Monet’s career he experience different types of art. Monet even saw painters copying the work of famous artists. Being original, would sit by the windows and paint the landscape in front of him. No matter where he went he carried his paints, always prepared to paint beautiful scenery. Claude was the founder and leader of the Impressionist. Most of his work was Impressionism. He had theories of broken color and interplay of light the farthest, sometimes painting whole series of the exact same view under different conditions of light and weather. Most of Claude’s works are landscapes.
This picture is called Lavacourt: Sunshine and Snow. It was painted in 1879-1880. This one looks like a landscape picture. From the angle where Claude was sitting or standing he can see the sun shining on one part of the mountainous area and where there is no sun at all.
