Classroom Observation summary EDU 305 November 6, 2011 Xxxxxx classroom observation took place at HIC preschool in Los Angeles. This was a preschool class with 16 three year old children and two teacher referred to as teacher Annie and teacher Marie along with xxxxxx. When xxxxxxxx entered the classroom she took a moment to look around the classroom to see how the teachers had the classroom set up. The classroom had two tables as you walk in the door. At one end of the table on the wall there are cobble holes for each child to put there things in when the children arrive at school. The children have to bring a blanket for nap time and a change of clothes in case needed. Near the other end of the table is a sink where the children wash their hands in the morning before sitting down for breakfast. After, the children start to come in, teacher Annie begins to put the cereal on the table in a large bowl. Teacher Marie put cups of milk on the table. Teacher Annie then cut some apples up and passed them out to the children. After the children ate they were instructed to go to the restroom and after washing their hands they were then told to go sit on the carper which was located in the idle of the room. When all the children are on the carpet one teacher began to read a story to the children and sing nursery rhymes, while the other teacher was cleaning up after the children finish eating. The classroom had both a girl’s and a boy’s restroom so the children do not have to leave the classroom when needing to go to the restroom. There were many pictures on the walls as well as pictures of the children. There were also numbers and letters all around the room. The room was painted in bright colors. There was an area with toys were the children can play pretend and even a rug where children can sit while they are listing to music. During the observation xxxxxxx had a chance to observe teacher Annie sitting in a chair teaching the children to count to 20. It was so amazing to see these three year old children counting and they knew all the numbers. Soon teacher Marie joined the class and she had the children line-up so they could go outside for play time. When the children lined up they were told to put their hand on the Childs shoulders in front of them to form a human train. As the children walk behind the teacher they were acting like a little train and saying choo choo. It was really an experience that I enjoy seeing. As the children went outside there was a play house where they could play pretend a sand box where the children could build sand castles a water table where they could play in the water, and some really quit tricycles that the children could ride on. All the children seem to be happy playing with one another. Although the children were out for play the teacher still found time to teach the children about color. Teacher Marie would hold up a circle that she had cut out in different color paper. Teacher Marie would ask if anyone knew what color I heard children say red some said green and some said blue. The color was green, after telling the children the color was green teacher Marie ask the children could they find anything that was green. One boy said the grass; a girl said she had green on her dress another girl found a leaf. It was so cool to see the children stop and look for things that were green. The children were learning during play time without even knowing. The children played together independently in different areas of the play yard. Both teachers seemed to be nurturing the children while still keeping them motivated to learn the things that he or she was taught. Some of the children were a little distracted and would talk to xxxxxxx, but over all the children did as they would have done if xxxxx had not been in the classroom. The last few minutes of the observation the children were called two at a time to go to the restroom and wash their hands before lining up to go to lunch. Xxxxxxxx found how teacher Annie and teacher Marie interacted with the children to be important to take with her into her own classroom. The setup of the room is also something xxxxxx will take with her in her own classroom. Everything xxxxxxxxx observation in the classroom will be helpful as xxxxxxx completes her schooling to be able to teach in her own classroom with her own active motivated children.
