Enjoys co-operative and dramatic play. 5 years Easily dresses and undresses. A child can kick and control a ball better. Good control of pencils and paintbrushes. Recognises new words and asks the meaning of them. Can decide on lighter and heavier objects. Enjoyment of jokes. Good sense of self- awareness Developed. Keen to understand rules. They are able to see a task to though to the end. 6 years Can catch a ball with one hand. A child can tie and unties laces. Writing hold is similar to the adult. Can adopt and refine their language though practise. Can read simple books. Enjoys games and rules. Very supportive of each other, playing complex games. Keen to understand and use rules. They have all the basic skills needed for independence in eating. 7 years A child can climb and balance well on the apparatus. Enjoys bike riding, skating and other activities. Skilful, precise and confident hand movements. Can give full name, age, birthday and address. Understands the use of symbols in maths, writing, etches. Verbal arguments, persuasion and negation. Able to form firm friendships. Children can tell rules and tell u if rules have been broken. Could be miserable and sulky and give up in short periods. 8 -12 years Improves physical skills that have already developed. Become more co-ordinated. Puberty starts around 10 for girls. Can transfer information from one situation and use in another. Able to read and write fluently. A child should be able to reason and apply logic to problems. Child will be able to communicate in a clear and fluent manner. Friendship becomes very important- mostly same sex. Awareness of consequences of behaviour and increased thoughtfulness. 13-16 Years Childs body shape has changed as a result of puberty. Childs Brain developing with increase in reaction times. Growth spurts increase. Becoming more globally aware. Talents may start to emerge like artistic, academic, and musical. Developing ability to think abstractly. Wants to spend more time with friends than family. Children of this age group are generally more able to describe how they feel and will have developed ways to deal with their feelings. Thoughts and ideas that may be different to their parents. 16-19 Years Girls are now fully developed Recognize and compliment physical maturity. Probability of acting on sexual. Desires increases. Child becomes more intellectual an increasing levels of maturity helps the child to make more informed decisions. Seriously concerned about the future; beginning to integrate knowledge leading to decisions about future. Feeling more comfortable communicating with adults. A child can have low self-esteem if their relationship with their peers or parents are not strong. Recognize and accept current level of interest in opposite sex. Peer pressure a significant influence.
