World War II was a long and bloody war that lasted for six years. Officially beginning on September 1, 1939 when Germany invaded Poland, World War II lasted until both the Germans and the Japanese had surrendered to allies in 1945.
1. PRESIDENT ELECTION and ECONOMIC CHANGES: January 30, 1882 – April 12, 1945 Franklin D. Roosevelt: President Franklin D. Roosevelt led the united states during both the great depression and World War II. Paralyzed from the waist down after a bout of polio, overcame his disability and was elected president of the United States an unprecedented four times. April 12, 1945 Franklin D, Roosevelt dies of a stroke.
2. MAJOR BATTLES: Major Battles of World War II: There were many battles during World War II some lasted a day while some lasted for months or years. Examples on December 7, 1941 when Japan attacked Pearl Harbor, on august 21, 1942-february 2, 1943 Stalingrad, and Midway which happened on June 3-6, 1944. Many more battle happen during the World War II.
3. D-DAY: June of 1944 during the World War II, allied powers planned to create a two- front war by continuing the Soviet Union’s attack of Nazi-occupied lands from the east and by beginning a new invasion from the west.
In June 1944, the United States and the United Kingdom (with help from many other western countries) began the long awaited attack from the west, the Normandy invasion. June 6, 1944 also known as D-Day was the very first day of this massive amphibious invasion, which brought thoughts of ships, tanks, planes, and troops across the English Channel.
4. THE HOLOCAUST: The holocaust started when Hitler took over Germany. This was due to the racial inferior he had towards Jews, but no only Jews was targeted but disables, and some Slavic people such as poles, Russians, and others. People were also targeted for their political beliefs, ideological, and behavioral grounds, among them communist, socialists, Jehovah’s witnesses, and homosexuals. The holocaust has end on May 9, 1945 when German armed forces surrendered to the allies. This tragedy ended 6 million Jews lives, when before the World War II started there lived 9 million in Western Europe.
5. THE FIRST ATOM BOMB DROPPED: As of August 1945, America dropped an atom bomb on Hiroshima and Nagasaki in hopes of ending the war. Japan formal surrender on September 2 ending the war.
