Management of HR plays a big part in our world today. It seems as if things are constantly being produce and the world is growing with constant action. Within the system there is globalization, technology, diversity, e-business, and ethics. This not only goes on with the United States but it is also happening throughout the other countries.
An ethical issue that has become evident as a result of globalization would be the Internet technology. It has become the most popular of technological advancements since the 1960s. Even the World Wide Web (WWW) was developed until the 1980s, which ultimately resulted in an explosion of the personal computer market that advanced the United States (US) into a dominating force in the technological arena. Throughout these years, the US has shared an abundance of technology with other countries such as the United Kingdom, Canada and Australia. This has created a great deal of globalization. There is now a big concern with the ethical issues that have arisen over the last decade and with many more years to come. People are wondering and having to deal with the ethical and legal issues concerning personal privacy and legal rights as it pertains to personal and business of people’s lives. For example, pornography or violence which is spread throughout the world. This also includes the moral, ethical and social issues with respect to medical business and social monitoring. The government is also dealing with the social impacts of globalization into other cultures due to deregulation. Being that technology is a very powerful tool, it has had a big contribution in education, politics, medicine, environmental monitoring and a wide range of other areas. It has also had a big negative impact on moral and ethical issues with the exploitation of people, medical cloning research along with business and media corruption which is a huge thing that happens every day. This situation would bring a great deal of ethical perceptions amongst many cultures because things are happening and going on everywhere. People of all nation and races are dealing with the media and everything that in going on with the internet. These things also affect many businesses around the world which deals with many different cultures. Now some positive things may consists of you being able to get help with a bill or have live contact with a person that is in another country which is available online. The risk that may be involved with this has to trust the person and your information traveling across the computer. Since there are hackers out there you have to be really careful of the information that you provide because it can be stored and can hurt you in the long run. You have to be able to trust the other person on the other end that they are doing their job and not collecting your information for their own good. Now in HR, diversity also plays a big role. Each company should provide some type of training, and mentoring, so that they can have a workable atmosphere. Each manager should coach, mentor and counsel their employee’s so they can get a better understanding of each other and what is expected of the company as a whole. According to Andert-Schmidt (1995), “True diversity means that companies must also create an environment where any candidate can succeed” (p. 31). There may be different programs that each company uses in order to manage diversity. Based on information found in Andert-Schmidt (1995), “Total Quality Management is a business theory that focuses on four major areas: identification and enhancement of quality customer service, full workforce participation, process improvement, along with standardization and preceduralization of current processes, and management by fact, collected data and identified outcome” (p. 8). Some companies may also integrate diversity through Traditional Affirmative Action and Equal Employment Opportunity programs, training and awareness programs and management practices found by Darlene Andert-Schmidt (1995). These are not the only programs that can be used but it is a stepping stone to a better workforce. Since diversity can consists of a variety of different things, your work and education level can depend on how you are classified. For instance, someone’s seniority, experience, whether they are union, salaried or even lack of education or training plays a part Darlene Andert-Schmidt (1995). You yourself as a whole just being different would be considered as diversity because no one person is the same. Forming teams is another great way to manage diversity. When working together you get to learn the different characteristics of each person and get a better understanding of each other.
As you can see globalization, technology, diversity, e-business, and ethics play a big part in our society of management and has to do with the different effects of management on the world today. It would be good if everyone could start making a positive out of the internet and shut down the negatives.
