Quest for a Cure
Quest for a Cure
Oncologists and other researchers are still seeking a cure for cancer. Currently methods of treatment are under development. Until a cure is found, we must do our best to prevent cancer by becoming aware of the food we eat and the amount of chemicals and radiation we are exposed to.

Types of Cancer
Because cancer can be found in just about any body part, there are too many types of cancer to name. However, one system of classification has placed the variations of cancer into four types: carcinoma, sarcoma, leukemia, and lymphomas.
Carcinoma occurs in the skin, the lining of organs, or glandular tissue. Sarcoma is found in the bones, muscles, or connective tissues. Leukemia is cancer of the bone marrow, and lymphomas take place in the lymph nodes.

Causes of Cancer
Cancer is established in the body when something causes the cells in a particular area to behave differently than normal cells. Normal cells divide, but eventually stop dividing and rest. Cancer cells, on the other hand, never stop dividing and reproducing. This can lead to tumors, which are groups of excess cells that are deadly. Although scientists have not been able to pin a specific cause of cancer, research shows that factors such as nutritional disorders, hormonal imbalances, viral infections, and immune deficiencies contribute to cancer. Excess exposure to chemicals and radiation is also a believed cause.
Effects of Cancer
There are many effects of cancer, often depending on the type of cancer that the person develops. These effects include pain, infections, weight loss, muscle malfunction, and the destruction of organs.
