Each group should prepare one presentation based on the following steps. • Electing a group leader for coordinating purpose; pass your tutor the names of the group leader (with email address) and members; • Choosing case topic on random basis. Step 2 • Holding group discussions on the question and assigning tasks among group members for the exercise; • Preparing a 40 min. presentation with not more than 30 PPT slides, plus one title page with the names of all members; • Make some copies available to the class for discussion, not more than 20; • Send your PPT slides to your tutor. Requirements • Your presentation should be short but not superficial. You should focus on the KEY POINTS with your understanding. A very long “background” that is copied from somewhere can be counterproductive. Any presentation that is longer than 40 minutes will be terminated when the time is up; • The presentation should be shared by all members. • Don’t just read your slides! You need to explain your points and prepare for taking questions. Assessment • A group presentation will be mainly assessed by PPT slides at the same time of the presentation and by the group’s responses to the questions following its presentation. Suggested topics for Group Presentation Since 1980s, large numbers of small- and medium-sized companies have involved in FDI in China, but the most prominent among them are large multinationals. They are the pacesetters in the market, and their performance is closely monitored by other players in the field, as well as by business analysts. Your group is requested to choose one of the under-mentioned multinationals who has invested in China for examining its strategy and selection of entry modes. 1. Nokia 2. Volkswagen 3. Starbucks On the other hand, China is rapidly becoming an important source of outward foreign direct investment (OFDI). Starting from virtually no OFDI in 1979, the initial year of China’s open door policy, China has accumulated over US$ 90 billion of OFDI. China’s OFDI flow and stock now stand as the 4th and 6th largest, respectively, among developing countries. Your group is requested to choose one of the under-mentioned Chinese origin multinationals for examining the opportunities and challenges it encountered in foreign business environments. 4. Lenovo 5. Haier 6. TCL 7. Geely Auto Appendix 2 Topics and Requirements of Group Project The newly released 12th Five-Year Plan (2011-15) of China signified that China is ready to go on to the next phase in economic growth by storing wealth among its people and allowing the public share the fruits of reform and development. With application of knowledge and skill learnt from the Course, write a report about 2500 words in which you draw on your investigation to describe and critically appraise the business opportunities for Hong Kong based companies.
