In trend, students beating teachers. 2010 has been a tragic year to teachers in Sarawak and Perlis for they had been taken out by their own students. To curb the issues government has called 10 ministry to form a special body named Jawatankuasa Induk Menangani Gejala Disiplin. Collaborations among those ministries could tell the discipline problems in Malaysia is at a very worrying level. Why is this happening' One factor that contributes to the ill conduct of the students is globalization. A world without borders with advancement of technologies to aid our life. The presence of globalization has made our students become more educated as they can reach for myriads of information with just a click but at the same time the informations they search via internet are not filtered and supervised. These easy access data are vulnerable to students who do not practise netiquette. Juvenile cases like raping,molesting and even beating will take place as a result. Technologies also provide too much exposure regarding western lifestyle. Movies and television programmes being broadcast in our local channels presented many hedonism,gangsterism and bad norms that do not fit the values of eastern people. Being influenced by the western values and being too keen to be labelled by peers as an urban girl or boy, students in Malaysia forget their roots as Malaysian and practised free lifestyle by going to school with coloured and long hair for boys,dating in schools and even hurting teachers to express their rebellation towards school’s rules. Family instituitions these days are easily ruined by the demand of globalization that requires everyone to work very hard to earn for living. Parents work day and night. Weekends that should be used to spend time with children are replaced by giving money for these children to go out and find anything to buy. Parents are not to be blamed totally as they work to feed their children. However, these students requires supervision and affections from parents. They need guidance in finding their personalities and defining what is the ying and yang in their life. While parents are busy with work, students find peace by smoking,loitering at the malls not doing their revision or homework and they even play truant at schools. Problematic family also leads to student’s misconduct. Sometimes, students who bullied others at school has the experience of being abuse by parents at home making them turned aggressive at school. Family affections are the most crucial element in moulding positive traits of the children. Poor family’s affection will lead to ill behaviours at school. Apart from that, discipline cases in schools are worsening because of the weak enforcement of school’s law. Millenium students seem to disobey school’s rules . Prefects and teachers do not seem to be an effective medium to enforce the laws in school. A case in Kedah, a teacher was beaten badly by two Form 5 students because he caught them skipping the school’s assembly. Students ignore the advice or warning by prefects and school’s discipline board making them powerless in enforcing the do’s and dont’s and the involvement of parents in every decision made by discipline board made the matters more critical. Everybody seems to just rest the discipline matters on the shoulder of the discipline boards. If all the staffs like the gardeners, clerks, teachers and all the students take part in enforcing the laws, then students’s with good conduct can be moulded. In order to build a solid foundation of discipline, all party should play their own part. Most important element is family. If the family could provide a condusive surrounding for growing up and provide the essential love and care, nothing could harm the students, not even the globalization or the weak school’s laws.
