Cause and Effect
To every action in the universe there is a reaction, whether it be crime and punishment, or love and happiness. This idea is basic; every action you take will always have a consequence either good or bad. People who tend to work hard and prepare for their future, often have a bright one ahead of them. While negative tendencies on the other hand, like laziness and procrastination usually end in failure. There are many different examples of cause and effect but I will describe a few that I think are important and relatable.
Firstly, I think that a highly current and important example of cause and effect is global warming. Global warming is widely debated on its actual harm to the planet, but happens regardless. Global warming is an effect on the planet caused in theory due to the pollution of the earth’s atmosphere. The pollution is caused by factories, automobiles, and various other man-made products that release chemicals into the air. The effect is that these pollutants collect in the atmosphere and make a one way barrier for the heat that enters the atmosphere. This pollution keeps a lot of the incoming heat and radiation from leaving the earth much like a greenhouse. There is a lot of action being taken to change the earth’s predicament at this point, like pollution reduction in automobiles and factories. Hopefully people will start to realize that we need to think ahead of time of these effects before we cause them.
Another example of cause and effect is the situation I find myself in right now, being home this semester instead of being back up in Edinboro. I was going there to be an art teacher and I needed to keep a GPA of 3.0 which sadly I was unable to do. Not only did I fall short of that mark but I got too low of a GPA to even remain at the school. The only way I can get back is by doing well at CCAC and writing a letter to the dean pleading my case. The cause of me being removed from the life I had been so fond of, was my own laziness and disregard for my work. I put school second last year and my grades were evident, I tried to make a comeback but it was too little too late. I feel like I honestly did give a legitimate attempt at the end but it wasn’t in time. I would love to have another try at school with the emotion I gave it at the end of last year. Hopefully after this semester I can return and resume my life up at art school and undue the effect of my carelessness.
Lastly, an example that I feel many can relate to are the causes and effects of the usage and misusage of alcohol. Everyone can relate to the subject of doing something you later regretted due to the effects of alcohol. Alcohol is a great thing to enjoy and use in moderation but drinking too much usually ends in mistakes. I personally can attest to the highs and lows alcohol can bring, it all depends on the amount you take in. The effects that can spawn from over drinking vary from nausea to undesired actions you do without any recollection. Often over drinking lands you in awkward situations and fights you wouldn’t normally take part in. The cause is very obvious and the effects are often not worth it to begin with. I’m no expert but I feel as though I can use alcohol maturely for my age and I am proud of that.
To every action there is a reaction and each need to be thought about before action is taken. I hope that my examples are enough evidence of how the relationship between cause and effect work. The cause is spurred and the effect follows, whether it is good or bad greatly depends on the action. It can either be world threatening as in global warming or life threatening as in excessive drinking. The damage in not always too late to be undone but the lesson learned should always be taken to heart.
