Business Strategic Direction Opening a business is not easy task, but it can be very rewarding not only in profits realized but also in personal fulfillment of achieving the goals set forth in the mission statement. A mission statement is a way of stating the basic goals of what we as a company does (our product), who our customers are, and how we can provide for those customers (University of Phoenix, 2009). Developing a mission statement. As the owner and operator of JAL Enterprises and after months of consideration, I have decided to open an Arby’s franchise. The Arby’s Group mission statement is a combination of core values instead of just one statement (Arby’s The Good Mood Food , 2012). According to "Arby’s The Good Mood Food" (2012) these core values are: Dream Big We believe in the unlimited potential that lies within all people and we are committed to providing opportunities for people to achieve their dreams. Work Hard We believe that hard work and front end effort are prerequisites for success. Get it Done We believe that achieving positive results is the key to continued success for everyone. Play Fair We believe that winning teams play by the Golden Rule. We treat our customers, business partners and team as they want to be treated - with respect. Have Fun We believe that life is meant to be enjoyed. Success comes more quickly by having fun while working toward our objectives. Make A Difference We believe that as a company and as individuals we have the responsibility to improve the quality of life for our employees and communities. Their vision is “To provide an exceptional dining experience that satisfies our guests’ grown-up tastes by being a ‘Cut-Above’ in everything we do” (Arby’s The Good Mood Food, 2012). As the owner of a franchise, I will align myself to the company mission and vision statement. I also have a vision and mission statement for my company outside of the parent company. My mission statement is “To serve the finest quality food, with service that is fast and accurate, in a clean, and friendly, environment. We as a company also want to provide a better place for the future generations through the use of green technology.” This is done by hiring motivated and dedicated employees who understand and pratice the motto “Treat the customer the way you would like to be treated”. This motto incorporates smile and greet the customer, asking how you can help them, recommending an item to complete or enhance the meal, and serving the customer with a smile, a thank you, and please come again. Vision of the future The vision for JAL Enterprises is to establish and operate three more Arby’s in the local metro area to provide a friendly clean restaurant for our customers to either dine in, or take home and enjoy. It is our goal to provide the finest quality food, in a clean and friendly atmosphere while leaving the smallest corporate footprint possible. For JAL Enterprises to accomplish this vision we must be willing to search out the best locations, and to provide our staff with the training needed to become not only a dedicated employee but also to instill the realization that they can make a difference in the future of the community. Going green is not just an abstract concept but a way of life that will help future generations. Once the customer base realizes that we, as a company, are dedicated to working to provide a better world for future generations it will create a win-win situation. The customer will win through lower prices, the future generations of the community will win because of our dedication to using fewer natural resources and through hybrid technology. This will create a win-win situation for us as a company by creating a competitive advantage and sustainable future for the company. Culture, social responsibility, and ethics Ethics is not something that can be taught, but it is a way of defining how a person will behave, or react in a given situation. The guiding principle of JAL Enterprises is to be known in the community as the company that operates on the Golden Rule “Do unto others as you would have them do to you.” This commitment to fair and ethical business practices can be seen through our treatment of employees, customers, shareholders and the community. Another way that we are using the golden rule is through developing a small corporate footprint. This is being accomplished from the ground up by building restaurants that use fewer natural resources, produce less waste and by recycling. Importance of Vision, Mission, and Values in Strategic Direction The importance of an organization to develop a vision, mission, and values is important for strategic direction (University of Phoenix, 2009). The foundations of strong values exemplify by a vision to be undertaken by an organization helps the company be successful. For a business to articulate to its employees, and customers why we are in business, who our customers are, and what benefits we expect, it needs a well defined mission and vision statement along with a good strategy plan (University of Phoenix, 2009). As the owner and operator of JAL Enterprises, it is also my mission to leave the smallest corporate food print possible. As a result of this mission statement our customers and employees can know that we as a company want to serve the finest quality food but we also want to leave the environment in better shape through the use of green technology and recycling. A vision statement needs to be realistic and relevant to the future of the company. The vision for JAL Enterprises is to establish and operate three more Arby’s in the local metro area to provide a friendly clean restaurant for our customers to either dine in, or take home and enjoy. It is our goal to provide the finest quality food, in a clean and friendly atmosphere, while leaving the smallest corporate footprint possible. Achieve competitive advantage A company is in business to make a profit from their investment. Maintaining a completive advantage is the key to growth and sustainability. The Arby’s name will bring the customers in but our commitment to quality food, fantastic service, and a clean and friendly environment will keep them coming back. Everyone wants to eat in a clean and friendly environment and most restaurants are clean and friendly so it will take more than that to achieve a competitive advantage. Knowing that a restaurant is committed to making the community a better place for our children to grow up in makes them wants to come back. Going “green” is good for the community but it also good for us as a company. Using fewer natural resources and incorporating the hybrid use of solar power in conjunction with regular electricity will help lower the cost of doing business. We can in turn pass this saving along to the customer through lower prices. References University of Phoenix (2009), Strategic management: Formulation, implementation, and control (11th ed.).
