D1 – Evaluating how excellent and confident personal selling was demonstrated
Introduction – For this task I have been asked to carry out an evaluation to explain how I demonstrated confident working skills in 3 different situations I will explain how I performed in each situation and provide examples.
K2 Phones –I will now evaluate my performance for K2 Phones and provide examples on how I demonstrated excellent and confident working skills.
I am working at K2 Phones, K2 Phones is a mobile phone shop and I am working as a sales advisor. A customers comes into the store and I greet him by saying “Hello welcome to K2 Phones how may I help you today sir'” this showed that I was interested in the customer and wanted to help him. This is a very important part of excellent personal selling because it will make the customer feel welcome to the store and will also make the customer think that I am helpful and that I respect him. If I didn’t do this the customer would feel unwanted and would think that I am very rude and disrespectful, which might result in the customer leaving and this would give K2 Phones a bad reputation.
The customer wanted to know what the latest phone with all the best features was. I listened carefully to what he was saying and I replied “Of course that is my job, the phone that I would recommend to you is the new w995 it is a truly brilliant phone with excellent features”, however he said it was to expensive so I offered him a Samsung Tocco and he happily accepted it. This demonstrated excellent and confident personal selling skills because I answered his question without any hesitation because I knew which phone had the best features and it was without any doubt the W995. If I had showed him an awful phone the customer would be very confused and he will eventually shop at a different store which would put me in big trouble.
Once I had explained everything to the customer I let him decide if he wanted to buy it or not this is part of excellent and confident personal selling because it showed that I never pressurised the customer into buying it, if I had carried on to talk the customer might have felt into being pressured to buy the phone and could have lost the sale. However in this situation the customer said “Ok that sounds a lot more reasonable, so yes I would like to buy your Samsung Tocco on pay as you go please” I replied by saying “There you are mate and here is your receipt thank you very much for shopping at our store please come to our store or phone us if you have any problems”.
Excellent and confident personal selling skills are important because the customers will be satisfied with your service and will also feel like they are wanted to your store. It was very important that I listened to what he said and also know what he wanted; if I never knew what type of phone he was talking about I wouldn’t have been able to sell the phone, therefore the customer would have shopped somewhere else.
I think I showed excellent and confident personal skills because I knew what type of phone he wanted and I also treated him with respect. However I could improve by being more specific about the phone that I am selling.
Bentley - I will now evaluate my performance for Bentley and provide examples on how I demonstrated excellent and confident working skills.
I am working at Bentley. Bentley is a luxury car dealer. I see a customer approaching to me and I greet him with a smile. This is demonstrating confident personal skills because it is making the customer feel pleased and makes the customer think you are a good person. I then said to the customer “Hello there, how can I help you'” This showed that I was interested in the customer and it is a very important part of excellent personal selling because it made the customer feel good and also feel welcome to Bentley. If I didn’t do this the customer would think that I am unprofessional and disrespectful which might put him off.
The customer wanted help on what car to buy. I made sure that I listened to him and I answered him. One example was when he asked “I was just wondering if I could get any help on buying a new car as I am very confused on what car to buy, can you help me'” I replied by saying “Of course what type of car are you looking for'” This demonstrated excellent and confident working skills because I asked him on what type of car so that I knew what car to recommend for him. If I didn’t do this I wouldn’t know which type of car is for him for example if had just said a Bentley Speed with Turbo the customer would not be amused.
Once I had explained everything about the car to him I let him decide if he wanted to buy it or not. This shows excellent and confident personal selling because I never made him feel pressured in any way as it is a very expensive item. However, in this situation the customer said “Ok that’s fine, I think that I have finally made up my mind and I think that this is the car for me”. I reacted by saying to him “Are you going to pay by credit card or cash' And when do you want your car delivered' Would you like it to be delivered in the weekend or a working day'” Closing the sale is important because so that the customer completes the transaction and is finally ready to buy your product.
Excellent and confident personal selling skills are important because at Bentley you must treat the customer with respect and make it feel like the customer matters because Bentley is a very big company and also the cars are very expensive. If I didn’t treat the customer with respect and I acted to over confident the customer might not like you because you are being arrogant. Poor sales in a business big as Bentley will result in very low money incoming and the customer might consider buying a car from another luxury car dealer like Rolls Royce.
I think I demonstrated excellent and confident personal selling skills because I met the needs of the customer as he wanted a car fit enough for four passengers and I also treated him with respect as it is very important for a big name company like Bentley. However to improve my personal skills I could take it easy and try not to go too overboard with being over confident.
