Gisi When dealing with virtue, value, and moral concepts in the workplace can be difficult because your fellow co-workers ethics maybe different from what you believe in. In the workplace, ethical dilemma happens every day and it is sometimes hard to resolve them. For example, I and my fellow co-workers have a dilemma about what to cut back in our work area to benefit our company. My fellow co-worker has decided to lay-off a department which is benefiting the company, but me on the other hand I feel like it is morally wrong to lay-off the department that is making our company the most money. Having a good ethical background in business can prepare you when dealing with employees and dilemmas. Virtues and values mean the same thing to me because it what you believe in and how to react to a conflict when there is a dilemma that you are facing within the workplace. People really don’t go by that motto because their moral concept maybe a little different than yours or it could be that they really don’t understand what ethics really mean. Social pressure is a major influence in business ethics because employees, supervisors, and managers perceive the way you interact with your fellow co-workers can cause a dilemma in the workplace. For instance, one of my fellow co-workers had on a short skirt on, and our manager called her into the office and told her that it was unprofessional in the workplace. Social pressure is when companies have a reputation of being unethical and unmoral to their employees, and that situation can cause an ethical dilemma in the workplace for employees too. It what you say and how you say it is beneficial when dealing with social pressure because when my co-workers and I had the dilemma about to what to cut back on what can benefit our company, and my co-worker had said “that it is not good for them to make more money than my department does I feel that need to be lay-offed.” The social pressure of his reputation is what he wanted for he is very unethical because if we work for the same company then why should it be competition to be the best department within the company. Dealing with social pressure in the workplace can get you to understand how to face dilemmas, and how to interact with other people in your workplace. If I was faced with the same dilemma today I would recommend that I would talk to my manager and fellow co-worker about ways we can compromise the dilemma without getting fired. Also, I would approach my fellow co-worker in a professional manner instead of an unprofessional manner because the way you talk to people can cause a conflict in the workplace. When dealing with ethical dilemmas in the workplace can be difficult but, if you handle them with good ethical values can be beneficial for you in the future. We as people it is hard when having a dilemma with someone else we react on instinct to defend ourselves from the situation but, we make the situation harder when don’t listen to what the other person is saying to try get us to understand that it is not that bad if we take the time to compromise on the little things that make us mad. Dilemmas in the workplace is really stressful to a lot of people but there are ways we resolve these dilemmas by doing our job the way the company wants us to do it, interacting with fellow co-workers on how to make things better for the employees, and stop stressing on what others are doing around you. This business ethics class has taught a lot when dealing with people or situations in the workplace and I appreciate the knowledge of how to conduct myself in the workplace, around people, and in business. Also, it has opened my eyes to where I understand that moral values and ethics are truly beneficial when dealing with business. Understanding the concept of business ethics has made start watching what other companies deal with their dilemmas and ways to resolve them professionally.
