There are many problems that could go wrong when one is running a business and many of those problems can be computer related, the problem that I am specifying would be the loss of important information. If the information is not properly backed up then there will be many issues for billing reports, there could also be loss of payment information which could cause the company to lose customers which could really hurt the business. Other problems that memory loss could cause would be the loss of mailing addresses which could in turn make the company lose out on money that is owed to the company making the company fall behind and lose profit. Luckily there is a solution to this problem and that would be a disaster recovery system. For a company as big as the company that I would be working on I would use two backup plans in order to ensure the safety of the information of my company. The first system that I would use would be an online storage and the information that I would store there would be financial records of the company and the finance records of the customers. Online storage is the most secure kind of backup system that I could find and it would also be the most reliable system to use in order to store this vital information. The online storage facility is protected against more than just hackers; they are constantly monitored for humidity and temperature by top of the line programs and hardware that can cost into the hundreds of thousands. These online companies have to keep these machines safe because the average company could have millions of customers with information on their systems and they could easily go bankrupt from getting sued for lost information. An online storage facility works through the companies that offer it. The company has to schedule times in order to back up their information and the company could be programmed to backup the data on regular intervals. Another advantage to using this system would be the cost of the service. It is much cheaper than if the company were to use their own personal backup servers. An online supplier that I would use would be Storagepipe Solutions which is a very well known company and it is an IBM business partner. It is the leading provider of disaster recovery solutions since 2001 and they have had a large amount of success with bigger companies, because they usually employ a security system that works really well. This company has many servers set up for almost limitless storage and the system works by encoding the files to keep them safer and when a company needs information from one of these servers then they simply have to call and request the certain information. If a company could not use backup a simple virus getting through could cause the company to lose vital information and the company could easily get sued or go bankrupt if they could not get their information back. The downside to using Online Backup companies would be that they could only backup their systems certain times a day so the company would also need another backup system that would enable people in that company to save information that might not be saved. Online storage facilities also back up the information a second time and compare the information and compare in order to ensure that all of the information that has been streamed to them is correct just in case something were to go wrong and the information was not complete. The best secondary backup system that I could use for my company would be our own personal servers which would have many advantages and disadvantages. The advantages to having these servers would be that we would be able to back up information at any given time and if I could program it right the company could have it backup all the information automatically. Another advantage would be the security and reliability of the system depending on the software that we set up with these servers. The disadvantages of having the companies own servers would mainly be the cost and the planning on setting them up. The servers would have to be stored in a room that is both temperature controlled and humidity controlled. The cost of keeping the rooms monitored could cost too much for the companies budget and the cost of the hardware and software could be a major problem too. Due to the online backup company that we would be using we would not need our servers to be as big as other companies our size. Our company would not need as much storage on site because we would have the most important files stored online and the files that would need to be backed up would be the information stored each day. This would work much like a tape backup storage system because each file backed up on a certain day would be overwritten saving on much space. The space needed for our companies own system would be around 5 terabytes of storage as of where the information stored online could need anywhere from 10 to 50 terabytes of storage. This would make the storage system much cheaper than it could be and because of it the budget could be cheaper depending on which hardware and program mixtures that the company would use. The software that I would recommend for our private servers would be Microsoft Windows Server 2008 which is expensive but it is also more secure than other programs however it is a reliable system. The hardware that I would recommend for the company’s server would be the Dell PowerEdge R710 Server with the Hyper V because it is relatively cheaper than other systems and it can also be upgraded in case the company were to decide to change from having both backup plans to just their personal server. The system is also cheaper on electricity and can replace up to 7 Dell 2850 systems. The system can also yield profit in as little as 17months which can make the system pay for its self. Microsoft Windows Server 2008 is also compatible with the system so the hardware and software would work well together. The PowerEdge R710 is also easy to use and can help future technicians to have an easier time understanding the system as they take it over and the software is also easy to use enabling future technicians to have an easier time understanding it as well.
