Day to day communication is vital in a company such as, McDonald’s restaurant. In an eight hour shift you and your employees communicate throughout the shift. Varies the types of communication that will take place these include face to face, electronic, posted messages, internet, and cell phones. How these different types of communication works throughout an average shifts, helps effectitivty run this said working shift. From the communication from manager to manager, manager to employee, and from crew member to crew member all of the types of communication is used.
How these different types of communication effect each working day as the following. Face to face is the main source of communication. This type of communication is a manager first interaction with other crew members. An average day includes crew members clocking in and the checking with the manager to see which position he or she will be in for the day. If you are to run a register, you first verify your cash drawer, then you communicate to the manager that your drawer is at the correct amount. Once the crew member is set up to take order on what is called front counter, the crew member is now involved in face to face with the consumer. If you are a manager your first type of communication is face to face and written communication. These two types of communication goes together because not only are you discussing the issues, you also have preshift paperwork that has to be done to be properly prepared for your shift. Next type of communication involves electronic and internet, they include computer software system such as, the cash register system, which communicate between the order taker, order make and order preparer. Cell phone usage to communicate with other managers, owner, and higher up management are used on a daily basis. How do these types of communication help managers and their daily actvitives' Without communication a restaurant manager cannot run their assigned shift. Being able to communicate with customers is vital; you need to be able to handle customer issues and request. This involves listening to the consumer and communicating the information to the proper channels. If a customer states a complaint with their sandwich, the manager must be able to get an understanding of how the customer wants his or her sandwich to be and be able to communicate this to the grill team. As a manager you will be in charge of training which include not only you understanding the position, you must also be able to show and help crew members who need help understanding the proper procedures. In doing inventory the manager has to take a count of the stock in the store, and then input this information into the computer system for tracking. If a manger see a shortage in a certain product not only do they communicate this information to the manager that does the truck order, he or she also can call the next manager to come on duty and request a pickup of need supplies.
Now trends in my workplace include are major change in technology. Starting with the internet because of this new technology thing has change. At one point in time you would have to go to a location and apply for a job using a paper application. Now this process is done over the internet, along with pulling up background checks. An advantage to the internet usage is cutting paper cost by not having some many documents printed for training because not over half of your training in done with videos. Another example of advancing in technology is the use of headsets instead of speakers. By making the switch the restaurant has been able to cut down the mistakes in taking orders. The use of the headsets cuts down outside noise so the order taker can hear the customer at the drive-up speakers. The production manager in the grill area also wears a headset which, in turns helps the manager control the food production. For example we can say that a customer pull ups to the drive thru speaker and order 40 chicken nuggets and you see that there is not of product ready. Now the productation manager can get the nuggets drop which, in turn cuts down on the customers wait time for his or her order.
Fast food is just that fast food, customers expect to come into the restaurant place an order, get the order and be eating all within a two to three minute time frame. Reaching this goal comes together when everyone works together and has the ability to communicate with each other. The advantages of new advancing trends has led to faster more accurate communicate between all parties involved. This advancement has led to more time to focus on the customer, more turn out of correct orders, less waste whole and raw and faster ways to train new employees.
Speaking of the customers, communication interaction is on a daily basis. The types of communication that is involved are commercials, newspapers, internet and face to face. We used these types of communication to convey a message to the consumer. With commercials and newspapers we advertise new products, special deals, and so on. With the internet we can display more personal information about the company such as financial reports, mission statements, and special congrats to certain employees. Face to Face involves the moment the consumer pulls onto the lot of our location. The interaction on a face to face level is very important. Not only do want to convey a message of friendliness, we want to convey cleanliness. Consumers will not want to come to a restaurant to eat if the crew is rude and the restaurant is dirty. But all these types of communication are used at McDonald’s to bring in consumers and to maintain a long lasting relationship.
