During week's one observation of getting myself to work on time can take numerous steps that can consume time on a daily base. The observing and keeping track of each flow in the mornings for the past couple of days has made possibilities for the process to be contoured. Bottlenecks are any steps that would affect the speed of process. In my everyday routines, bottlenecks were caused by two factors: getting gas and freeway traffic jam.
The primary issue that leads to creating bottleneck on some occasions that holds the whole process is getting gas the night before work. Once recognizing the idea of bottleneck, it was clear that this process could be done by stopping at the nearest gas station on the way home from work no matter how tired I was. If I can maintain to take these steps on a daily base I can actually speed up the flow of my daily routine. The second bottleneck was running into a freeway jam-- to avoid being stuck in traffic, I must find alternative ways to get to work such as detouring away from traffic jam. Another way to avoid traffic jam is to get up earlier to get to work on time.
Utilizing Dr. Goldratt's Theory of Constraint to my daily routine can assist me in handling and understanding the bottleneck. According to Chase, Jacobs, & Aquilano (2006) five steps ought to be met to enhance Dr. Goldratt's Theory of Constraint: 1) determine system of constraint; 2) determine how to use the system of constraint; 3) subordinate everything to that determination; 4) advance that system; and 5) if the system of constraint does not flow, repeat steps 1-5 again.
To add, every process must determine their own bottlenecks that prevents the advancement of work flow. From my experience, being prepared and planning ahead of time will enhance the process and defeat the outcome of a bottleneck in the process flow. Dr. Goldratt's TOC shows to determine the constraint bottleneck in a process and building the left over resources of an organization by applying the five steps.
