IS TELEVISION BETTER OR BOOKS' We are living in a jet age, my friends. A fast paced techno-friendly world. We now have hour long movies, 20 over cricket games, 2 minute noodles and what not! No one has the time to read an old 600 page book when one can catch its 3-d movie in a nearby theater. Good morning, I am Dvivid Trivedi of D.P.S Chd. and I out rightly stand before you to support the view point that T.V. is better than books. Let us look at books first, Books are a solitary anti-social vice and a slow way of acquiring data, whereas, the television uses images & sounds, which our brain remembers longer as the human brain has a photogenic memory and shows quicker stimulus to it. Moreover, TV and books may not be a big difference for you or me, but think about the other 296 million of the people of India which are illiterate. Books cater only to the literate audience where as there are over more illiterates than literates in the world. On the other hand, television is an enterprise with a wider audience comprising of literates and illiterate all over the world. Let me ask you friends how many of you knew about the results of the last IPL match' Was it a book you read on the IPL' No, it was the television which makes instant news possible for us. There is always something new to be told, and TV is the quickest way of getting them to us. Books here are not even a close contender. The TV is a multi-utility technological asset, For example, after a long day at school I sometimes, go home and choose to watch a reality show such as Roadies ™ as a form of escapism and relaxation, whereas someone else may prefer to watch it as a form of company or for fulfillment if they were lonely. Don’t watch the idiot box, go and study. How many of us here have heard that statement form our parents' Well, let me assure you that you are not wasting your time in front of the telly, the amount of knowledge we gain from watching just an hour of Discovery ™ or National Geography ™ can never be attained in paper back forum. The DTH services from various Satellite services provide us with many educational games and fun ways of learning. The TV is a compact box which caters to different tastes, and hence makes it the quickest and most convenient vice of acquiring knowledge of the whole world, from learning new recipes, to knowing the latest news by the second, TV has such a charm that books can’t possibly attain. The television acts as an almanac, dictionary, and an eye into the world around us. On the conclusive, I accept that there are some negative aspects of Television, but it has been bashed since day and memorial and criticized to a point where it has lost its well deserved credit. Bad eyesight, Obesity you can squeeze just as many negative biological terms you want to bash TV, but let me tell you many can also be used for books. What people need to understand is that books are in no way superior to television; there are just as many bad books as television serials. I am firm on my decision and whole heartedly support TV over books, besides; books don’t have catchy theme songs.
