To kill a mockingbird short story Why' Why' Is the question that Boo Radley asked himself' Why did he do what he did on the eventful day' A great feeling inside of him came out. His father had always been very abusive and therefore he is emotionally damaged by it. He has been locked up in his house since he associated with the wrong people and got into a lot of mischief. The entire town believes he is a horrible person but inside he is not. On that day Boo was sitting on the back porch reading a book. Boo was a tall man with a thin mouth and thin hair. He looked sickly white like he had never seen the sun and his eyes were grey, almost as if he was blind. He was wondering why the lights were on at the school auditorium behind his house. It was a Saturday night. Must be some sort of play he thought to himself. While he was reading he heard a cough and he saw a man standing behind the big oak tree. It was Bob Ewell. Boo didn’t know what bob was doing but then he saw him holding what appeared to be a knife. Then he saw the Finch kids walking from the auditorium. This made him ponder about all the things he’d done for them. All he wanted was some friends and love of some sort, so he had always been helping them. He mended Jem’s pants when they were torn on the fence, left small presents in the knot hole in the tree outside. He was worried at the danger they were in, but also confused as to why anyone would want to hurt these children. When he saw them getting closer to Bob he knew he had to do something. Boo stood up watching the children pass the tree. Scout had some sort of costume on probably from the play she was just in. The children then heard Bob as he was creeping around the tree. Bob stalled for a minute then started chasing after the children. At that point Boo started running after Bob through the garden and over the fence trying to save the kids. Bob pushed both kids over and started stabbing at scouts costume with his knife. Boo pulled Bob off her, but Bob pushed Boo who tripped and fell over. As he was getting up Bob pushed Jem to the ground who was trying to help his sister. There was a soft crunching sound at the breaking of Jems arm as he fell. Boo got up and wrestled with Bob again. They brawled for the possession of the knife and Boo got it and stabbed Bob under the ribs. Jew was unconscious and Scout was ok. The knife only shredded Scout’s costume. If she did Had not worn it she would have been killed. Boo picked up Jem and carried him to the Finch household. Scout saw him carrying Jem home but did not realise it was Boo. Aunt Alexandra was there when Boo was at the door and a shrieking scream was heard through all of Maycomb. Atticus comes running and sees the unconscious Jem in Boo’s arms. Alexandria calls the doctor and Atticus calls the sheriff Heck Tate. Jem was placed on his bed in his room and Boo sat on a chair in the corner of the room. He sat there worrying about jem and how much trouble he would be in for killing Bob Ewell. He just sat there and said nothing pondering why he did it' To save the kids. But surely his father would find out and do some terrible things that he did not wish to think about. Scout came into the room and asked the doctor if Jem was dead, the doctor reassured her that he only was sleeping and had a broken arm. Atticus said “we better talk on the porch”. They all went out to porch, but Boo was still sitting there worrying about Jem if he was going to be ok. Scout at that point realised it was Boo and said “come on boo, I’m sure he will be ok”. Then they both went to the porch. On the porch Heck Tate and Atticus were talking and Boo just sat in the corner and was scared at how much trouble he would be in. Heck Tate knew Boo did it and convinced Atticus that they would cover it up for the sake of Boo and said that Bob fell on his knife while he was chasing the children. Boo was then confused at why they have done this for him when they did not even know him. He felt scared and asked Scout to bring him home, which she did. There was the faint smile on Boo’s face. He felt happy that he had a friend, the first in so many years. As he was walking home he wondered why all the events happened as they did. He wondered why Scout was not scared of him like everybody else would have been. He was scared at how much trouble he would be in from his father. But as he was walking home he felt a sense of happiness because he was with Scout. He walked inside the radley house and closed the door and was never heard again
