Blood Red It was a dark and cloudy October night. The wind roared through the trees and the rain fell hard on the ground below. There was a rustling of leaves in the distance. Suggesting a stranger’s arrival. A fall shadow appeared, carrying a small lifeless body. The black figure laid down the limp body in the amber, red and yellow leaves. Taking out a dirty old mud covered shovel, the figure started to dig a hole, lowering the body in and covering up with freshly dug earth. The forest had been uprooted down and a housing estate had been built there. No one knew what was underneath one of the houses, what it was or who it was. Children played in the streets on their bikes, screaming and laughing. A loud voice screamed “Get out of my way!” A black car had driven onto the Estate, its windows tinted black. The voice was harsh and loud, scaring the children. When the car pulled into a drive way a young woman stepped out and looked around at her surroundings. Children and their mothers stared at her as if she was trouble. She stepped into the door and closed it, little did she know her life was about to change. After getting all her belongings in the house and unpacking, she picked up some boxes and headed for the basement door. Opening the door and looking down into the darkness, she flicked the light switch but nothing happened. Turning to a little table by the door she picked up a torch and started to ascend down the stairs. Following each step with the torch light she put the boxes down on the ground and watched the torch go around the floor, ceiling and walls. She got to a corner and something caught her eye. It was a small black shadow. She walked closer with the torch, shaking slightly. She didn’t know what it was or even who it was. The closer she got the more faded the figure became. She bent down and saw a golden locket with E.S engraved on the front. She tried to open the locket but it just wouldn’t budge. She put the locket in her pocket and went back upstairs, still thinking about what had just happened. Afternoon turned into evening as she sat down to eat her dinner. The long table was meant for a family but she had no family. She was an ambitious business woman and far too busy to think about getting married and having children. She looked down to the end of the table and saw something in the window. She went to get up, when suddenly the windows smashed. She fell to the floor, covering her face with her hands. The glass flew all over the room, showering her with fragments of glass. She stood up and brushed the little specks of glass off her then walked over to the shattered pieces of glass near the window, they spelt out E.S just like the locket, dismissing the entails she looked at the window with the sharp jaggered edges, she turned to go back to the kitchen to get a brush and dust pan. As she started to clear up the glass, a large piece of glass cut her hand. She fell backwards and gasped with pain. She walked over to her kitchen sink but no water came out. She banged on the faucet but still nothing came out. She shouted at the tap and walked away to her bathroom. That tap worked. She washed her hands and dried them with a red towel. She looked up into the mirror to check her face and she saw a little girl staring at her with a pale white face. She had brown curly hair with a blood red bow in it and wore a blood red dress. Their eyes were fixed on each other, neither wanting to look away. She turned around quickly but the little girl wasn’t there any longer. It came to midnight and she heard this high pitched sound coming from downstairs. It was the smoke alarm going off and it pierced your ears like nails being dragged down a blackboard. She jumped up and ran to the door. As she opened it, a big gush of wind came through the door. She peered over the banister and looked into the kitchen. She could she a small fire on the cooker with something in the fire. She went closer to the flame. The colours danced over what seemed to be a small picture. Grabbing a fire blanket to put out the fire, she took out the photo and looked closely at it. It looked like the little girl that she had seen in the mirror. But she still didn’t know who it was.....BANG! The noise came from upstairs. Dropping the photo and grabbing a torch, she went up the stairs shaking with fear, wondering what on earth was happening and not knowing what to expect. The torch reflected off silver door handle, catching her eye. Cautiously grabbing the handle, she flung open the door, but there was no-one there. Four hours after the fire incident, she woke up to take a drink of water from the bedside cabinet when something caught her eye on the wall. A shadow of something swaying. A crackling was heard from behind her and the smell of smoke drifted over to her bed. She turned around and saw her door was on fire. The fire was like an ocean of red, orange, and yellow. She froze at the sight of the flames. Suddenly the flames went out. Putting a light on, the door revealed the initials E.S. She walked over to it, bent down and touched the burnt markings. Driving down the busy road on her way back to the house, the seat vibrated catching her attention, grabbing her phone she looked up and there was a little girl standing with a blood red bow and blood red dress in the middle of the road. No emotion on her face and the wind blowing her hair brown hair, the sun shone on it making it glisten in the light. Turning as hard as she could on the steering wheel, so hard you would think the wheel would have come off. She swerved into a nearby tree causing it to shake violently like a gentle earthquake. Crows came flying out the sound of their cries made you shiver and sent fear down your spine. Lifting her head up from the steering wheel she looked at the front of the car, it was all crumbled and sharp where the metal at compressed by the power of the crash. She sighed and crawled out of the deformed car. Suddenly she screamed with pain. Blood was running slowly down her leg a piece of metal that had pierced her leg. She ripped her shirt arm off and wrapped it tightly around the cut; she took a deep breath in and pulled the knot tight. Supporting herself on the open car door she stood up and looked around only to see no cars just a forest. The sun had already started to go down. How long had she been unconscious for' She started to walk into the woods every step felt like needles going through her leg. She walked for about 10 minutes and was about half way through the woods. She came to a great tree with a swing attacked to one of it long thick branches that stuck out all by itself. The rope was all twisted and discoloured; the wood on the seat was all round around the edges none of them were sharp. Compared to the rope the wooden seat contrasted as it looked brand new and the rope was old. She moved closer to the swing and suddenly it started to move. She jumped back and fell over as her leg was hurt and the cut was deep. Looking up, the swing started to swing back and forth as if someone was swinging on it. Suddenly she could hear a little girl’ laughter and singing coming from the swing. She stumbled back but lost her footing and causing her to fall down to the ground. Putting her hands on the ground and pushing with all her energy, she felt like a force was pushing down on her and not letting her get up like it wanted her to stay there. Finally using all her strength she pushed herself to her feet. “Hello” She stood up and froze. Then turned slowly around, keeping completely still. It was that girl she had seen in the mirror, the photo, the basement and on the road. Her blood red bow in her hair and her blood red dress, they stayed in your mind like a bad memory you wanted to forget. “Who are you'” She asked “I’m your daughter and I’m going to get you just like you got me” Replied the girl with a emotionless face. Then the women remembered, and had a flashback. Years ago she killed her husband’s little girl whilst her father was out on a business trip. The daughter and mother were in a relationship where the girl didn’t like the woman on bit. Then one night the girl went on a rage and smashed everything thing in the house, the woman locked her in her room and then once she knew she was asleep the woman crept into the room. Grab the girl, pinned her down and stab her in the chest. Standing up and staring at the little girls dead body covered in blood as red as the reddest red. She buried the girl in the woods a couple miles away from the house. She told her husband that she ran away from home, because she couldn’t stand not seeing him. The woman blinked as she came back to the little girl or now as she knew her daughter staring at her. Breathing heavily and watching the girl, she turned around quickly and started to run with every step immense pain went shocking through her leg. Looking back every second to just see the girl standing there with the wind going through her hair and the blood red and blood red dress flowing in the gusts of winds. Finally she reached her house. Struggling to get her house keys out of her pocket, she grabbed them and turned around to find the little girl staring at her on the other side of the road. She dropped her keys and there was no lights, as she felt around for the keys turning around the little girl started to walk across the road but then finally she felt the coldness of the metal key. Scrambling to get the key in the lock of the door or flung the door open and one last turn around to see the girl at the doorstep. She slammed the door shut, and slid down the door cupping her head in her hands and breathing heavily. A tapping came from the small window on the door, the woman got up and looked and jumped back to the surprise of the little girl standing there with a crazy look in her eyes. BANG! It came from upstairs. She looked up the stairs and into the darkness of upstairs. Taking small light steps and grabbing a vase gripping it tightly as she went pass the hall table. She came the start of the stairs and looked up then took a deep breath. Each step she looked infront and behind her, she came to the top of the stairs and looked left and right down the hallway. Slowly as she turned to the left there was the girl, staring straight at her and her eyes fixed still with that same crazy look in them. Her heart rate started to get faster and her breathing, the girl started to walk towards the woman faster and faster. Moving backwards, she caught a glimpse of something in the girls’ hand. A knife, that same one that was used to kill her. The little started to run up the hallway, the woman ran the door ahead of her but it was locked. She turned around and stood and watched the girl come running towards her like an animal chasing after its prey. Then a scream was let out and echoed throughout the house. The woman fell to the ground and looked up to the girl whose eyes had turned red just like her bow and dress. The girl leaned into the woman’s ear and whispered “I told you that I’d get you. . . I never loved you and no-one will ever love you now” Backing away from the woman’s ear and smiling she pushed the rest of the knife through. As the girl walked away she started to sing a happy song, then turned around to the woman on the floor and blew her a kiss and smiled and walked away down the stairs. It wasn’t until three days later that the Police found her on the floor in a pool of blood. Her eyes wide open and in her hand was a silver locket with the initials E.S. The to this day the case has never been solved to as what happened. But a little girl with a blood red dress and a blood red bow in her hair can be seen at night sitting on the doorstep with the wind blowing in her hair singing to herself.
