Biography_of_a_Knower

Personally I believe that knowledge is a seminal component of an individuals life and my motive to seek new knowledge arises from curiosity. An openness to knowledge helps people to learn. It benefits us by adding onto what we already know. Curiosity and desire drives an individual to pursue a goal in order to achieve which gives purpose to life. The reward of knowledge allows people to become enlightened in their thoughts allowing oneself to make educated decision when faced with a situation. I believe knowledge does not overwhelm and inhibit a persons ability to think for themselves but instead helps us make better choices and benefit in the future. It helps us avoid possible consequences. Knowledge is therefore also a form foresight that helps people comprehend everything in order to make sense of a situation and to make a suitable decision that will benefit. Knowledge is also power because it helps us understand; assisting us to form our own opinions on issues. It helps create critical thinkers, questioning unreasonable conventional wisdom and finding the real truth beneath the mistakes. At first, from childhood to a teenager I did not believe that knowledge was an important aspect of personality, that learning itself would not help much. The process of learning seemed to be blunt and bold: to find a job in the future. However knowledge makes people critical of what they do to take into account every possible perspective on a situation. An example of me being brought to this realization was in ninth grade. Throughout school students were constantly taught about colonization in history class. How colonization caused indigenous peoples to suffer. Even though we learned this, the game Scramble for Africa was a fun game to play: in involved taking over and dominating the continent. The feelings of superiority and power once you achieve domination was pleasurable. After the game however, it brought out a realization of how power shrouded peoples sense of ethical and moral values; It brought about peoples worst human nature by the lack of consideration for others that were “suffering” in the game. Players of the game was not able to perceive the situation from the perspectives of the slaves because we lacked this experience of being abused. This lack of knowing what it was like, this ignorance blinded me of considering these indigenous people. I realized that knowledge served more purposes besides getting a job. It helps us think critically, rationally and ethically. It helps people consider all possibilities and perspectives on a situation making us knower’s and intellectual people Opposing, Ignorance causes dislikes amongst people, it also forces people to abide by conventional thoughts and restrains people from exploring and challenging current knowledge that may have mistakes. Ignorance is caused by the lack of knowledge and it causes reluctances to learn or absorbed knew ideas and consider new innovations. It disallows personal expression and advocates for common knowledge and ideas that are limited
