She is the daughter of John de Mol, who was a famous singer. She’s also the sister of John de Mol junior, who is the owner of the Dutch television company ‘Talpa’. The television career of Linda de Mol started when she was very young. At the age of twelve she hosted a television program named: ‘Wat je zegt ben je zelf’ for AVRO. This program was made by children. After Linda finished high school, she studied law for a few years. She didn’t finish it, because she started working for Sky Channel. It was her brother John de Mol who convinced Linda to work in the television industry. At the time she studied law and did some work for Sky Channel. John asked her: ‘What do you want to reach in this business' Are you just dancing around in the disco every weekend' Or are you really involved in conferences' And do you want to learn how to direct a program'’ (15 april 2000, de Volkskrant, door Cornald Maas). This was something she had never really thought about. That was a turning point for her. She wanted to be more than just a host. Linda signed her first contract with the TROS in 1987. During this period, she hosted her own television program named ‘Linda’ and several other quiz programs. Her first really big success was the television program ‘Love Letters’, which she hosted from 1992 until 1995. Three love couples are competing against each other in this show to win a wedding. This was actually the first emotional television program in Holland. Before ‘All you need is love’ and ‘Het spijt me’. For the first time, couples told each other in camera, that they loved each other. And they even got married in the show! Her brother John de Mol said once: ‘People dare to tell certain things in front of the camera that they don’t dare to tell in personal life’. Linda became a big celebrity, not only in the Netherlands. Germany was interested in Linda de Mol too. She started hosting the program ‘Traumhochzeit’ in Germany, which was the German version of ‘Love Letters’. After that, lots of German programs followed: ‘Kollegen, Kollegen’, ‘Surprise Show’, ‘Hausfieber’, ‘Kindern für Kindern’, ‘Soundmix Show’, and more. 1999 was the year that Linda tried something new in her career: acting. Together with Monique van de Ven, Linda started acting in the drama serie ‘Spangen’. Until 2005 she hosted a lot of programs for TROS. After that, she decided to work for her brother John de Mol at his new television company ‘Talpa’. John the Mol is also the man who created the first real life program ‘Big Brother’. Linda de Mol hosted the program ‘Miljoenenjacht’ for the ‘Postcodeloterij’, had a talk show together with Beau van Erven Dorens named: ‘Linda en Beau op zondag’ and released her own television program ‘Gooische Vrouwen’ when she worked at Talpa. I will recall the series ‘Gooische Vrouwen’ later on. The television company ‘RTL’ bought ‘Talpa’ in 2007, and Linda started to work for ‘RTL’. ‘Gooische Vrouwen’ was also sent out by RTL. Why is Linda so successful' Is she so gorgeous' Not really. But what is it that makes her so special' When Linda de Mol walks in somewhere, there’s someone standing there. Linda de Mol is a real personality. She made some wrong decisions, but learned from them and kept growing. That’s her spirit! Of course every success starts with talent, but you have to work very hard, to develop that talent. A lot of people are talented, but they just don’t work hard enough, or don’t even know they have a talent. Linda is known as the perfect daughter-in-law, evolved in the far more glamorous world of a real star. This transformation is comparable to the role she plays in the film ‘Ellis in Glamourland’ (2004). Because she wanted to play in a romantic comedy, she directed the movie ‘Ellis in Glamourland’ and gave herself the leading role. Besides bening talented, Linda de Mol is intelligent too. I think a lot of people will still see her as ‘that blonde girl from the quiz programs’, but she’s more than that. She has a really clear opinion about the Dutch television world. In an interview she said: ‘I see the wrong people in the wrong programs. Some people want to be on television so bad, that they don’t even care about the program. They’re hosting a CallTV program, and really think they made it. They don’t understand that hosting is a profession, you have to choose programs that suit you, and make it your own program’. In that same article she told that in her family it was not done to tell that it you want to become famous, because it was hard to make money as an artist in the 1950’s. LINDA. Magazine In 2004, Linda introduced her monthly glossy magazine, named: LINDA. The magazine is based on the star personality Linda de Mol. After a year, the magazine LINDA. was already chosen as ‘Magazine of the year’. It’s the personality of Linda de Mol that forms the basis of the magazine. LINDA. is actually the Dutch version of the magazine ‘O’, based on the personality of Oprah Winfrey, the popular television host. Just like the magazine of Oprah, Linda is featured on the cover of the magazine every month. Also, they both show their interests and thoughts about the subjects in their magazines, and have a monthly theme for the magazine.
