DRINKING AND HOW IT CHANGED MY VIEW
At first I didn’t think drinking was that bad and at parties I would have a few drinks, until one night. That night I was the one selected to look after everyone and make sure nothing bad happened, everything was going smoothly until my best friend Stephanie suddenly fell to the floor. At first I panicked then I remembered what I had learnt in my VET course about putting people in the recovery position to help them when they wake up. Stephanie had passed out from drinking too much alcohol in a short period of time. After placing her in the recovery position I had no idea what to do so I started asking around if anybody knew how much and exactly what she had, had to drink or if she had taken anything. When Stephanie woke up she started to kick and punch the air and anybody who went near her. When this started I had no idea what to do so I called triple zero. When I called the ambulance the operator was asking all these questions and I was getting worried because I could not answer all of her questions, as I was very flustered and my brain was going a million miles an hour. The operator was very good as she was calm which in turn helped me calm down to. She told me not to go near Stephanie as I could get injured myself and the last thing the paramedics needs is two people to look after. The operator was very helpful and stayed on the line until the ambulance arrived which was about five minutes.
Eventually when the paramedics arrived I let her know and with a few reassuring words she told me to do everything the paramedics asked, said goodbye and hung up. The paramedics started asking me questions about what had happened I answered them as best I could, they then said that she was going to be okay but she would need to go to the hospital for observation. They then proceeded to tell me which hospital they would be taking her to so I could inform her parents. A couple of days later I got a phone call from Stephanie thanking me for what I had done and telling me she would no longer be binge drinking. This made me very happy because then there were two of us to look after someone if that should happen again. After this ordeal I vowed not to drink again until I was of age as I did not want this to happen to me. This is not technically a person that changed my view but the incident has changed it so much from the time before it happened, I now frown upon underage drinking and I refuse to be a part of it, as I have seen the consequences of the action.
