What is a best friend' Everyone has a best friend or is one, and not just anyone can be your best friend. Everyone has different standards for their best friends, and they normally hold qualities that you cannot always find in others. We call them our best friend because they go out of their way for you and do things that others would not. They have values that not everyone else acquires, which gives them such an eminent title. They do things that you do not expect everyone else to do. The fact that they go "above and beyond" for you makes them who they are, your best friend. Friendships usually begin with trust; a quality that is very important in a best friend. They are the one whom you can trust the most, no matter what the situation is. You tell them your deepest, darkest secrets and trust that they keep it to themselves. You can tell them gossip you hear at school, or problems going on at home and be assured that no one else will hear of them. Along with trust, honesty is another important quality. The word "lie" does not exist in your friendship, because best friends never lie to you. They tell you the truth no matter how much it may hurt, because it is easier to hear it coming from them since they care so much. Although you may not want to hear it, they tell you because you need to here it. Best friends never keep anything from each other. You have them there so that you do not have to keep anything bottling up inside of you and you are able to talk to them about anything because they are good listeners. They are someone who you can vent to, and they are there for you when you are feeling down. Best friends know the trick to make you smile and they have the potential to cheer you up when no one else can. Even if you are having a bad day along with the worst attitude, they stay by your side through thick and thin. Being reliable is one of the greatest traits a best friend acquires. The reason why they acquire this trait is because they are there for you no matter what, and always have your back. In order to have your back they do whatever it takes and no matter how much the distance may be, they work their magic to be there for you. They never betray you, even when things go bad or when mistakes are made. They try to help you by taking action rather then just giving advice on how to fix the problem. They understand that nobody is perfect and that everybody makes mistakes. Since perfection does not exist in your friendship they accept you for who you are and do not put you down because of your flaws. No matter how many hardships you may go through, they are there going through them with you. Best friends never try to change who you are or make you do things you would not want to do. A mutual value that best friends have is respect for one another. They treat you the way you would want to be treated, and they respect your choices and decisions because they know you so well. They encourage you even if no one else does. In addition, they support you even when they might not see things from the same perspective you do. How long you have known this person is not essential to the relationship, but how well you know them. Time shouldn't have an impact on how a best friend is labeled. Just because you may have known someone since the age of four, does not mean that they are your best friend. Your best friend could be someone who you may have just met a few months ago and you clicked with them instantaneously. What makes them your best friend is how well they know you as well. Since they are the ones who you spend most of your time with, they may even know you better then you know yourself. Your best friend has the ability to predict your moods and can quote things that you say on a daily basis. Although friends come and go, best friends are always there. They make an impact in our lives and change us for the better. Best friends offer an undivided friendship that can not ever be broken. The commitment that best friends give to each other can be hard to find in others. That is why only few are selected to hold such a prestigious title. Whether or not you have one, two, or three best friends, they are there for you no matter what. My best friends are always there for me through thick and thin, whether I am happy or sad, or if I just feel like calling someone. Without them I don't know what I would do, they are practically my family!
