Benjamin Franklin: An Extraordinary Life, An Electric Mind. Benjamin Franklin is a man of many qualities and characteristics. He was known as an inventor, scientist, composer, a visionary, organizer, philosopher, a father, and a friend. Just to state a few. I believe that the main thesis of this movie was to show the world that a man with a mind to change the world can accomplish great things. Ben Franklin believed that volunteering together in cooperation could accomplish great things. He put to practice what he believed and what he preached. Because of his belief in a “greater good” he helped influence this country in extraordinary ways. He believed that human logic could unlock the mysteries of the natural world. This he proved with his many inventions, changing the world forever. His inventions were the result of trying to solve common, everyday problems. According to Ben his inventions were for the use of all. One of his most famed inventions, The Lighting Rod, has been a great instrument in our lives today. In fact I think that much of our technology today is a result of Franklins studies and inventions. He was a philosopher. One of the most notable things, I believe, is that Benjamin Franklin wrote everything down. His thoughts, letters, and inventions. I believe that this man never stopped thinking of how to make this world a better place. His studies were not limited. He was constantly learning and expanding his knowledge. If he wanted to know how something worked or how to make it better he studied it and then improved it. Besides his inventions and writings he was an ideal citizen. He said, “A good example is the best sermon.” When in France he quickly put himself into society and became a famous man among them. He did good to others and therefor gained trust and friendships that would eventually help in gaining treaties with France. He improved the world by establishing libraries, volunteer fire departments, public hospitals, and intellectual societies. He had a love for his fellow mankind. He was an example to many and influenced many to do good. At the age of 20 Benjamin Franklin decided that he wanted to become a better person and wrote a book of virtues to live by. Among my favorite are Humility: Imitate Jesus and Socrates...apparently he was a big Socrates fan. Another that I believe was his greatest characteristic in accomplishing all that he did was his virtue Industry: Lose no time. Be always employed in something useful. Cut off all Unnecessary actions. He was a man that never wasted any time. He was always doing, thinking, and improving. I think that developing this book of virtues was a foundation Ben set for the rest of his life. While he only lived by these virtues for a little while he carried the book with him for many years and I believe that it was ingrained in his personality in becoming the person that he became. He aided America in becoming independent. Because of his great mind and love for this country he was able to accomplish things that I believe no other man could have accomplish. I think that because of his love for what was right he had no fear in dealing with the political authorities in many countries. Because of his bold character he was able to gain trust with many diplomats and help America with many treaties with other countries. Ultimately helping America to gain independence. Not many people can say that they accomplished even a fraction of all that Benjamin Franklin did in His life. Because of the man that he wanted to be and the kind of person he envisioned all to be he was able to change the world. I think that we all could use him as an example in our own lives to become the kind of people that make differences in the world. He lived a life to make changes and changes he made!
