1. INTRODUCTION English has become a world-wide language, with numerous countries adopting it as an official language. English is the dominant international language in science, business, aviation, entertainment and diplomacy and also on the internet. In most fields of work your ability to speak English can help you advance your career, helping you get the job you want and earn more money. No matter what your area of expertise, skill in English will contribute substantially your success. To become truly proficient a speaking and understand English, you have to practice with native English-Speakers. No matter where you go in the world, you have a very good chance of finding someone who speaks English. English is quickly becoming the global language and it dominates the world in many ways. There are many reasons for this fact, one of which is the fact that Great Britain was a global power during the colonial days, and today America, is perhaps, the most powerful nation in the world. Because of this global domination, learning English is essential to successfully communicating in our global society. 2. BENEFIT OF SPEAKING EFFECTIVELY IN ENGLISH There are many benefits of learning English. English is the Global language now. English is used for communication by people who do not speak the same language around the World. Here some benefit and more advantages of learning it. 2.1. Develop Your Career Most professional jobs need a good level English speaker or writers. If you want to grow in your job you need to know good English. It has become as important as Degree and Diplomas. Fluency in English can be very important if you want to take on a sensitive job in a predominately English-speaking area. For example, if you want to be a police officer and you are moving to the United States from a foreign country and you don't speak English, you will need to become fluent in English. Your fluency will allow you to perform most effectively to help people in times of stress or trouble. Lives may be at stake including yours if people don't understand your instructions or whatever it is you are telling them. You may need to give someone very detailed instructions to save a life and you will only be able to do that if you commit to learning English and becoming fluent. With learning English can broaden your employment opportunities. People who speak two or more languages are ideal candidates for job in travel, international business or translation. People who work with the general public, such as those who work in hospitals or in law enforcement, are often encouraged to speak a second language to better improve communication when it is most vital. If your work involves regular contact with speakers of foreign languages, being able to talk to them in their own languages will help you to communicate with them. It may also help you to make sales and to negotiate and secure contracts. Knowledge of foreign languages may also increase your chances of finding a new job, getting a promotion or a transfer overseas, or of going on foreign business trips. Many English Speaking business people don’t bother to learn other languages because they believe that most people they do business with in foreign countries can speak English, and if they don’t speak English, interpreters can be used. The lack of foreign language knowledge puts the English speakers at a disadvantage. In meetings, for example, the people on the other side can discuss things amongst themselves in their own language without the English speakers understand, and using interpreters slows everything down. In any socializing after the meetings, the locals will probably feel more comfortable using their own language rather than English. The ability to fluently speak English language in addition to your native language can be beneficial if you’re seeking job opportunities with international companies. The ability to speak a language spoken by most business people can place you a step ahead of the competition. In addition, learning English improves your prospects for employment. This is especially so if you are searching for a job in travel, marketing and maybe translation. Speaking two or more languages gives you a great upper hand over your competitors. If job you are searching for involves public relations like those of police (generally law enforcement) and hospital staff, then it is advisable to have a working knowledge of English. It will undoubtedly be of much help one day. 2.2. Information & Research Learning English is a very wise thing to do for several reasons. In general, English is also the universal language on the Internet. English is the main language of book, newspaper, airport and air-traffic control, international business and academic conferences, science, technology, diplomacy, sport, international competitions, pop music and advertising. The majority of all information that is electronically stored around the world is English. Once you learn English, huge world information will automatically be made available to you. It is because the Internet is mostly in English. It’s about three quarters of the world’s mail is written in English, so that you can send e-mails to anyone from anywhere in the world, because they will understand English. You also can chat with a myriad of users, you can buy items from web site in English. English is also the key to the science world. Over two-thirds of the world’s scientists read in English. In 1997, around 95% of the articles in the Science Citation Index were written in English and only half of them were from English speaking countries. 2.3. Travel/ Meet New People Learning English can also help you to meet new people, if you are travelling places you won’t face any problem. If you intend to travel soon, you should know that English is most likely the language you will encounter both at the airport and within the country itself. Many English speakers seem to believe that wherever you go on holiday you can get by speaking English, so there’s no point in learning any other languages. If people don’t understand you all you have to do is speak slowly and turn u the volume. You can more or less get away with this, as long as you stick to popular tourist resorts and hotels where you can usually find someone who speaks English. However, if you want to venture beyond such places, to get to know the locals, to read signs, menus, etc, knowing the local language is necessary. A basic ability in foreign language will help you to ‘get by’, i.e. to order food and drink, find your way around, buy tickets, etc. if you have a more advanced knowledge of the language, you can have real conversations with the new people you meet, which can be very interesting and will add a new dimension to your holiday. There are also numerous opportunities to learn English as a second language, which can be a great way to travel and see world. Travelling to a foreign country is another great way to practice your language skills, but it also make for a less stressful experience when you have some knowledge of the spoken language. Besides that, you may need to attend International Business Meetings and Exhibitions either as a visitor or a presenter and the chances are you’ll have to speak in the English language. If you are the kind of person who loves to interact and meet with new people, the English will be of much use to you. This is because many of the new people that you meet most probably speak English. Imagine the doors and possibilities that will be open to you once you learn how to speak and write in this great language. Because English is a first language for many country including the United State, Canada, the United Kingdom, Australia, New Zealand, and Ireland, among others, many others foreign countries teach English as requirement in schools. It is estimated that over a billion people in the world speak English on at least basic level. Welsh speakers played a similar role during the Bosnian War. 2.5. Culture Maybe you’re interested in the literature, poetry, films, TV Programs, music or some other aspect of culture of people who speak a particular language and want to learn their language in order to gain a better understanding of their culture. Most people in the world are multilingual, and everybody could be, no one is rigorously excluded from another’s language community except through growth of different cultures, where different pathways of human knowledge can be discovered. They certainly make life richer for those who know more than one of them. (Nicholas Ostler, Empires of the Word) 2.6.
