Bedtime Stories Director: Adam Shankman Cast: Adam Sandler – Skeeter Bronson Keri Russell – Jill Jonathan Morgan Heit – Patrick Laura Ann Kesling – Bobbi “Bedtime Stories” is a fairly well written kid’s movie, about keeping hope in one’s goals, while make sure one’s doesn’t lose sight of what is important in life, such as love and family. Film constructed base on the basic structure of 3 acts such as beginning, middle, and ending. For the beginning, film is starting with a narrative voice of a man, Marty Bronson, in 1974. He introduces himself as the owner of quaint hotel that is also ran by himself and his 2 children. The daughter, at 12 year old is very serious minded and runs the front desk efficiently. And the son, at 10 years old, has a wondrous imagination the motel is debt, and Marty is forced to sell to an English chap by the name of Barry Nottingham. However, Marty will only sell to Barry under the agreement that his son runs the place when he is of age. And this is the basic setup for Skeeter Bronson background, main film’s character – Marty’s son. A very nice high-angle shot was used to introduce Mr. Marty Bronson when his voice is narrated the story and it’s change smoothly to a long shot to present the place of the story he says that his Motel. The original place that will develop to Nottingham hotel after. They used the long shot to show the process of build the Nottingham hotel to perform the time pass from 1974 until the present time of film, and it also presents the location of Nottingham hotel Skeeter is setup as a hotel handyman, and the conflict of the film is starting setup when Nottingham announces plans to build a new hotel he appoints another man named Kendall to become the manager. After that, the film runs with the relationship of Skeeter with his 2 sister’s kids, and his sister Wendy. In his niece’s birthday (whom he hasn’t seen in 4 years), his sister informs him that the school that the children Patrick and Bobbi attend, that she herself is the principal at, is being closed down and that has to relocate to Arizona for a job and asks Skeeter if he could watch her kids. Even though Skeeter doesn’t know his niece and nephew very well, he agrees. Characters setup are almost done. The film runs to a very interesting part that build up the stories between Skeeter and his 2 sister’s kids. The first one begins with the story that Skeeter modeled around his own life, he tells the story of a medieval squire named "Sir Fixalot" and his rival "Sir Buttkiss". Throughout the story the kids make their own additions, such as the king giving Sir Fixalot a cha nce to prove himself. And that during the celebration, Patrick announces, "that it starts raining gumballs" and the story ends. The following day, while driving to his sister’s house, Skeeter is suddenly greeted with a shower of gumballs raining down from above (which he does not see is caused by a crashed delivery truck). Skeeter concludes that the story had come true and quickly develops a plan to use it to his advantage. The raining gumball is a very critical scene of this film, it like a key to open all the next stories that is why people make it very wonderful with a lot of beautiful shots. Started with a close up shot to Skeeter face and some fall down gumballs, this shot makes a little bit mystery to the audience that what next will happen. Continuing with a high-angle shot to show the whole raining gumballs, And a close up shot again to show the surprise of Skeeter. Middle part begins with the confrontation between Skeeter and Kendall. Skeeter was informed a “secret” theme by Mr. Nottingham that he had announced for the hotela rock and roll theme much like that of the Hard Rock hotel. When Skeeter points this out he is offered the opportunity to compete with Kendall” to prove himself” for a better theme. Skeeter seem to be get a complication that it is only the changes made by the children that actually affect reality. Skeeter determines this point when he elaborates a Western-theme in which he receives a free “Ferrari” horse from a Native American chief. However, it’s does not happen because the children does not corroborate. In case Skeeter tries to sell the kids on the theme ideas contest, he gets another complication because his 2 kids are more interested in romance and action in their stories. The next story begins with Skeeticus, Greek gladiator who, after impressing the emperor and a stadium of onlookers, attracts the attention of the “ fairest maiden”. He and the maiden were setup a lot of romance details, have a meal in restaurant, walk on the beach, Skeeticus saves a man’s life, a rainstorm sends him and the maiden into a magical cave which has Abraham Lincoln in it. Skeeter loses his patience with the story and upsets the children Unable to get them to continue, the story ends. However, Skeeter realizes that the girl in the story he design it is not Violet, but unexpectedly runs into Jill, who invites him to luch. This also a For Skeeter and the kid’s final night together, a space-themed story begins with Skeeter’s character who battles Kendell’s character in anti-gravity. Skeeter’s hard-to-understand character wins and Skeeter quickly ends the story. Patrick ( Skeeter ‘s nephew ) interjects that the story is too predictable and says that Skeeter will be “fire” and it is become a Skeeter’s obstacle. The climax of the ending part comes with the fiery hazards that Skeeter is trying to avoid, his tongue is stung by a bee, making him hard to understand when the competing with Kendall’s new Broadway-themed hotel. The resolution were given when Nottingham enjoys Sketter’s approach over the showy approach that Kendall had provide. A panic attacks on a fiery birthday cake causes Skeeter to be “fired” by Nottingham. Afterward, Jill, Patrick, and Bobbi are all upset as they learned where, which Skeeter just discovered, the hotel was going to be built: on the property of the school which they all work and attend. Wendy believes that he did not know, but upset because he had inadvertently taught the children there are no such things as happy endings. At this moment, film carries to Skeeter another climax that he need to prevent the school from being demolished. After finding Nottingham an alternative location, Skeeter takes Jill on a wild motorcycle ride, which ends at the school and manages to stop the countdown. Happy ending was given to the audience that Skeeter marries Jill and founds a hotel named after his late father. Kendall and his scheming partner Aspen are demoted to Skeeter’s hotel wait staff.
