Basics of Business Management Name: Rasha Yahya Ahmed ID: 101170024 1. Describe and analyze how the organization is structured to achieve its objectives. Organizations structure is the way of organize the department and the levels of the organizations, one of the structures is the Flat structure, A flat organization structure, or horizontal as some call it, is where the levels in the structure are close. In organizations like that you will find the managers involves with the employees, so they are informed, on the other hand the employees knows the managers vision, and have there opinions in consideration in the decision making process. its practical structure and when applied in the right way it effect the speed of work in a positive way. Usually its applied in the small organizations or in a small scale within a large organization. There are other structures types such as Functional structure, Divisional structure and Matrix structure, each type has its own characteristic and description. 2. Describe and analyze what are the organization’s internal and external customers In the organizations the profit is the goal to achieve, and it is important to identify your customers and know their needs, to be able to reach them, there is tow kind of customers that affect or affected by the product. Both kinds are important and the organizations give values for each of them. These kinds are the internal and external customers. Internal customers are every one related to the organization (employees, stockholders, suppliers ...). The organization relay on them to work efficiency because when the employee is satisfied a result he will deliver a good quality product. The External customers are everyone outside the organization and not related to the organization and potential buyer for a good or service from the organizations. It is important for the organization to realize that the internal customer can affect the external customers. For example a happy employee will deliver a high quality product. 3. Describe and analyze the leadership style in the organization Leadership style Leaders are humans, and there is special characteristic for each person that defines him. Whoever there is common styles that distinguish the leader form each other, these are some of them: * The Creator leader is the organization founder, he has a great impact on the organization because he the one who create it, and build the foundations and vision, that all other leaders will try to achieve. * The proselytiser leader who has the ability to convince the employee about the vision of the organization and make them believe in it, so the employees will be happier to work, as a result the performance will be better. * The idealist leader aims to the perfection and ignores the flaws and contradictions. This leader style is wise and ethical; they are looking to achieve the excellence in the organization. People around this leader will look up into him. * The bricoleur leader is a powerful person; he can achieve the dreams and make a myth come true. He has a strong welling, great thinker and analyzer, he is positive, brave and patient. He is the person you need to make big steps in the organizations. * The diviner:- Insight into process in building organization 4. Describe and analyze its value chain and how it is managed by the organization. The value chain was created by M. E. Porte, in his book competitive advantage (1980). The following figure represents the value chain: Its consist of activities to achieve the value in the organization. These activities have two types: Primary Activities and Support Activities. Support Activities: It contain the activities that support the operations in the organization and force the primary actives to achieve its goals. * Firm infrastructure: it's the result of the strategic planning in the organization, organization culture, control system, and organization structure that contain (HRM) Human Resource Management, (MIS) Management Information System, and other mechanisms for planning and control like Financial Department. * Human Resource Management (HRM): Employees is the basic element in any organization, if the organization success in managing this recourses it will be the basic to build a successful organization. It include recruitment, training, motivation and rewards. It is mission is to direct the human resource behind the HRM strategy. * Technology Development: companies always looking for the update technology that help the organization to improve its product and reduce the cost as much as possible, this include new production technology, internet marketing and CRM (Customer Relationship Management) and any other technology developments. * Procurement: its the function that handle the purchasing of goods or materials, its responsible for seeking the lowest price and highest quality. All the outsourcing components, and e-purchasing witch is using the web-based technologies to achieve the requirements Primary Activities: * Inbound Logistics: Here the goods movements, it's received from the suppliers, stored in the warehouse until the employees need it or its process time. For example in a restaurant all the raw material such as meet, tomatoes', onions ... are bought and stored in the kitchen. * Operations: the goods manufactured and processed into the required product or service. For example: in the restaurant, the cooking for the orders is an operation. * Outbound Logistics: when the product is manufactured and ready to deliver. To the customer, for example for the restaurant, if the order is ready in the kitchen. To deli ever it to the customer. * Marketing and sales: where the marketing plans to reach more customers, by make offers and good reputations for the organization. Its goal is to communicate and improve the sales * Service: includes the services after the product sold to the customer, like the maintained or training, and complaints. It's important to stay communicates with the customer to gain his satisfy and loyalty to the organization. It supports the marketing by improving the reputation. 5. Make recommendations on how the organization may improve its value chain and its management. Value chain consist of elements and activities, to improve the value chain, you have to improve it is elements and factors. For example: if we focus on the HRM, we can improve it by support it, and make an effort to satisfy the employees. Also by hiring the experts in the field, another way is to get the pest practices for the operations, we might discover new method to improve the operations and improve the value chain as result. The same concept can be applied on the rest of the elements of the chain. By improving the chain we will have greater values. This improves do not have limitations, because the technology will never stop at some point. Example on improving value chain in a restaurant: improving the technology development by buying a powerful oven, which produce more products and improve the quality also. It even could improve the employee's performance and speed the process, so at the end the value chain elements affected by improving on of them and the customers who will be satisfied. Witch lead to requesting for more products and gain profit for the restaurant. 6. Conclusions The knowledge is a powerful tool to be used by the leaders of managers, all the methods and information will not be valued utile its used and developed continuously. It is important to understanding the following in the organization: * The organization structure and it is influence on the work flow and performance. * The customer's types and how to reach them and communicate with them and get feedback, and the most important is to gain there trust. * Value of chain and the ways to improve it. All these point combined build the organization and improving each one of them will improve the performance and get better results. The process of improving is endless Regardless the level of performance, the improvement is a continuous process.
