Similarly, the Sumerians had the concept of algebra, geometry, and arithmetic. On the other hand, the Babylonians had some more advanced mathematic skills. For instance, the Babylonians had square roots, cube roots, and Pythagorean mathematics. They also had quadratic equations and reciprocals. Nevertheless, the Sumerians had a 360 degree circle, bookkeeping, and place value. Both the Sumerians and the Babylonians had a number system based on 60, division, multiplication, and the concept of area and volume. The Sumerians had many great accomplishments in writing. They developed cuneiform and kept advancing and revising it over centuries. Likewise, the Babylonians used cuneiform. The Sumerians wrote poetry about their gods and to please their gods. They also used cuneiform for making charts. Similarly, the Babylonians used cuneiform to make charts and to write poetry. In architecture there are many great accomplishments. For example, the Sumerians had arches, columns, and domes. They also built Ziggurats, shrines, and irrigation systems. Many of these achievements have helped us in modern times. All in all, the Babylonians and the Sumerians had very advanced civilizations.
