It was through Roman historian Cicero where Saint Augustine was able to learn about Academic Skepticism. However, he did not believe in such because of creating theories of his own. These theories were used during the middle ages at a time were Christianity came into existence. He said that Academic Skepticism has three flaws. As to the first, he says in his principal of no contradiction that proposition on one hand and contradiction on the other hand cannot be true at the same time. One of them has to be correct and the other not. This is something that is actually real and true—in existence.
As to his second, if you were to doubt the views of a person, it is used at proof that a person really exists way after whatever argument may be brought to the contrary. The society did not really accept this because it did not go up against reason. I strongly believe that stated by society as it is the realistic and more practical approach.
As to his third reason that the way people perceived things brought about a solution on the question of whether or not there is knowledge that exists. This was believed to give knowledge its own unique style. If people could only see the environment then their knowledge must have actually come from somewhere. If you were to put a stick of any length in a body of water you would come up with a belief that the stick is actually bent and not straight. We know that in reality it is actually straight. But because of our beliefs, it kills the true way that we see it, which is being straight. This I strongly believe in. It is hard to doubt the things we have our own perceptions on after seeing how an illusion works.
