Assignment 2. This is my concise summary to demonstrate my understanding of my role and responsibilities as a teacher. “your responsibilities and those of others who have an effect on your work” I see my responsibilities would be to the individual learners and this would depend where I would be working. It would be essential that I would be aware of them and the sources of support that I can access if needed. I would be responsible for ensuring that the learners achieve the intended learning outcomes and have a fair chance of passing whatever they take, exam, assessment etc. Other responsibilities would be record keeping, promoting equal opportunities, inclusion and diversity, ensuring requirements stipulated by awarding organisations, for example, are met and correct procedures are followed in delivery and assessment of courses. It is important to find out exactly what I would be responsible for and who is responsible for other aspects of the learners’ experience. Awarding bodies, organisations, caretakers and invigilators could have an affect on my work as is the learners’ needs would. Some might need academic support with any aspect of study, support for learners with difficulties or disabilities, financial advice, counselling and careers advice. If I was working in for a smaller organisation where some of the above facilities was not available it would be better if I had a useful referral list which could contain the numbers/email addresses of the library, advisory services and the Citizens Advice Bureau. On some maters I should not attempt to provide advice or help as these are beyond my role. A lot of these would be found out from the initial assessment. The cycle of five stages really is concise of the roles and responsibilities of a teacher and these are:- 1. Initial Assessment. 2. Planning and Preparation. 3. Teaching. 4. Assessment. 5. Evaluation. And from these it would help us look at the individual. “legislation – how might it impact on your area and context of teaching” Below is a list of the legislations that you need to be aware of in teaching:- 1. Disability Discrimination Act 1995 (amendment) (FHE) Regulations 2006. 2. Employment Equality (Age) Regulations 2006. 3. Race Relations (Amendment) Act 2000. 4. EC Employment Directive – Employment Equality (Religion or Belief) Regulations 2003. 5. Sex Discrimination Act 1975. 6. Sex Discrimination (Gender Reassignment) Regulations 1999. 7. Special Educational Needs and Disability Act 2001. 8. Health and Safety at Work etc Act 1974. 9. Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999. 10. Data protection Act 1998. 11. Copyright, Designs and Patents Act 1988. These legislations must be adhered to and can not be brushed under the carpet
