INTRODUCTION
From when you are a baby to when you are an adult animal testing is used in your everyday products. Such things as medicines, food, chemicals, hair care products, skin care products, and make-up are tested on animals such as pigs, dogs, mice, rats, guinea pigs and many other animals. In some cases, scientists will infect animals with deadly and very painful human diseases and test hurtful and sometimes deadly cures on them. Would you like it' No I did not think so! Why put animals through so much pain' They do have feelings too. Up to 100 million animals are used for scientific research in the UK every year! 80 million of those are Mice. Most people think, this has to be done to find out the safety of these products or find cures for these diseases but it does not have to be done. I am sure that the companies can get by without doing these unnecessary tests on animals, some companies do not test their products on animals if they get by fine without it than I am sure the others can to, which proves it does not need to be done. And companies can get by without testing cosmetics, drugs and injecting infectious diseases into them. There are guides and regulations as to what they can do to the animals but perhaps they need to relook at the regulations and make the treatment standards higher.
PARAGRAPH 1
Each year up to 100 million animals are used to test things like, toothpaste, shampoo, conditioner, eye liner, foundation, eye shadow, sunscreen, paint, hair sprays, hair dye, medicines, cancer medication, anti wrinkle creams, deodorant, washing powder, soaps, shower gels, bandaids and millions of other things. These are tested on animals such as, Guinea pigs, rabbits, dogs, goats, cats, birds, amphibians, mice rats and many more. Different animals are used for different things, most commonly rabbits are used for make-up and hair care where as mice and rats are more commonly to be infected with diseases. Millions of animals are used daily to determine whether the new hair care treatment or anti wrinkle cream works. This process Burns the skin of the animals, shuts down the internal organs and can also be fatal. This is proven by the amount of animals that die every year by having these potentially fatal products tested on them. Most cosmetics and hair care products are tested on rabbits, in these tests, a liquid, flake, granule or powdered substance is dropped into the eyes of a group of albino rabbits. They usually receive no anaesthesia during the tests; they then record the damage to the eye tissue over a period of 72 hours. In some cases the reactions to the substances include swollen eyelids, inflamed irises, ulceration, bleeding, massive deterioration, and blindness. They go as far as infecting animals with deadly human diseases to find cures for humans living with these diseases.
PARAGRAPH 2
You are more like a mouse than you might think! Today scientists are creating models of a human genetic disease using flies, worms and other animals. But what to these models reveal about us' They use animals as models of human diseases. This means that scientists will inject pathogens into animals to reproduce human infectious diseases. They inject blood into parts of the body that are not supposed to have blood in them in order to cause a stroke for the animal, and also use radiation to cause tumours. The tests carried out on animals are in no way the same to the reactions or cures that they would find if they were tested on humans. Animals and humans bodies are completely different there for the reaction or cure would be completely different. The amount of animals they use in scientific research annually is disgusting; if they keep it up they will make the animals scarce. They inject animals with agonists or antagonists of various neurotransmitters to reproduce human mental disorders. Researchers have also used flies as models for Alzheimer’s disease and Huntington’s disease.
RUBUTTAL
Most cosmetic manufacturers say their products are not tested on animals. However, they are still required consumer protection laws in most countries to show their products are not toxic and dangerous to human’s health. In some countries, it is possible to meet these requirements without any further tests on animals. In other countries, it may require animal testing to meet legal requirements. There for a majority of people will look at the label or there shampoo or cosmetics and see the label, “this product has not been tested on animals” but in a lot of cases this is untrue. Due to the fact they are legally required to test their product to make sure it will not hurt its user. Studies show 85% of products has been tested on animals. The amount of animals that are injured or killed during these tests is just plain horrible, over 100million a year, these animals will die a slow and painful death and is not humane. These animals are sometimes injected with painful deadly and very infectious diseases that will put them in pain for hour’s days and in some cases weeks, who could put that upon a living animal' Also testing toothpastes, hair products and skin care products that will give the animals, rashes, get into their internal organs and in some cases kill them
Australian Companies like Aussie Mineral Makeup, Body and soul natural therapies and many more do not test their products on animals and use other ways of finding out weather their products are safe and work. Some companies test their products on fur or leather that is no longer on the animal. Companies test products on animals as it’s the easier and cheaper way to do it, as it costs more to buy fur or leather. There is many different ways that companies can test their products that will not hurt animals or kill them. It is up to the companies to adopt those ways, and this should be done sooner rather than later. Animals deserve a better life than that. A group Named PETA Who are the People for the Ethical Treatment of animals have been trying for years to get the rules and regulations for animals that are tested on to be changed and the treatment standards raised.
