What is the definition of humane'
Humane: characterized by tenderness, compassion, and sympathy for people and animals, especially for the suffering or distressed. Animal testing is wrong and it is cruelty to animals. This new testing technique started after the Holocaust, when humans were being experimented on. The official sense of it comes from the Nuremberg Code, basically saying scientists can do experiments on whatever, whenever as long as no human is harmed. In fact, each year about five million dogs, cats, rabbits, rats, monkeys, and other animals die in lethal dose tests performed in many states around America. During a lethal dose test, "the experimental substance is forced into the animals throats, or is pumped into their stomachs by a tube sometimes causing death by stomach rupture or from the sheer bulk of a chemical dosage." Scientists observe the way an animal's body will react. Most of the time, it will include convulsions, and labored breathing. Animals who have these 'side effects' are classified abnormal and will die from the experiment approximately 2 to 3 weeks later. Others are smeared with cosmetic supplies that sting and scald their bodies. In the past seven years, it is estimated that 100,000,000,000 animals have died from animal testing just in the USA. Whether their deaths were accidental or were meant to be beneficial, these poor creatures die. If they are not dead, then they are tortured until they wish they were. Although, It has been proven that animal based research is helping find a new and much more comfortable way to efficiently kill all your body's cancer cells. Undeniable as it is, animal-based research has contributed to significant improvement in the length of our lives, but to what extent' How many creatures must we kill to live a longer life' Animals are sentient, they still breathe and live as we do, making them feeling creatures and should therefore not be subjected to preventable suffering.
The small ways animal experimentation does actually help scientists, it takes lots of pain and death until by one lucky chance they stumble upon the steps leading them closer to a cure. The way that scientist reach another step towards their goals put animals in an extremely out of norm habitat. Animal testing statistics show that over 10 creatures lose their lives during the short course of testing experiments. Animals come out without their limbs, eyesight, hearing ability, and more. Companies have rebutted to animal-rights activists by using the fact that 93% of America eats meat. True as that is, you still cannot compare that with the months of torture the animals go through while the experiments are being conducted. Wouldn't you prefer being killed in one shot, rather than enduring poking needles, cuts and poisonous chemicals being injected into your system and being kept caged in a really small space for what seems like all eternity' Animals may hope and wish to escape the dreaded place that smells of disinfectants, chemicals and may be sure to bring them slow and painful death, but cannot. At the least, experimenters claim none of the animals were hurt in tests, but how can one be 100% sure' Not all handlers are careful. Some just jab the needles through their body, keep them in cramped up spaces, with little or no food for days. People consider animal testing okay, since the animals seem to have no complaints. How can we determine what the level of pain is that the poor creature is going through' Only because the animal does not speak, that does not necessarily mean he would not plead for mercy at his torturers feet, if he had been given half a chance. Animal testing needs to be stopped. Imagine if a human female was dying from cancer. It is ever so heartbreaking to see one of our owns lives be pummeled away from a treacherous disease. That woman could have been a wife, a daughter, even a mother. Now just visualize the many animals being injected with cancer to save the equivalent of one woman's life. Those animals have families and lives, too. The killing of a male chimpanzee deprives him of his friends, his family, and his own life. Were a human to be that chimpanzee, the scientist would be considered a brutal and heartless murderer. He would be put in jail for homicide. These tests are not conducted on humans, because it would not be seen as 'humane.' What is the definition of humane in your eyes' Why cannot humans be used for cosmetic testing' If animal testing is banned, then animals will be able to live fearless, and the profit will go up for the people who don't buy products that are tested on animals. Why not just create products that you know are not dangerous' Then you wont have the problem of animal testing. Most of the time, animal testing is truly meant to be beneficial towards killer diseases such as cancer, but sometimes, animals suffer through all this so people can reduce wrinkles with Olay's new Anti-Aging Cream. No matter how much potential animal testing may have in the future, it is not worth losing millions of animal lives while we wait to get there.
Have you ever wondered why cancer research has not progressed by much' The reason behind that might be the fact that we are testing for human problems in animals. Where, obviously, we are not animals. We are humans. People and animals are different and that's why a medicine or cosmetic ingredient that is safe on animals may not be as safe on people or the other way around. For example, aspirin is toxic to rats and mice but not to people. Also, animal experimentation is not accurate because animals used for testing and research are in a lab and not their natural habitat. Dealing with that, they are under a great deal of stress which can thus affect the accuracy of tests. Many drugs that are tested on these animals react much differently both chemically and physically when their bodies are under stress. According to Americans for Medical Progress, when an animal is tested for a new product, yet already has many different chemicals inside him, side effects may be hidden or disappear. Side effects of a new cosmetic product are crucial before it goes on sale. With the side effects hidden, the product could pass inspection and harm and potentially kill many humans. This issue is created when companies like Ponds, Pantene, Olay and Clairol test multiple products on innocent animals. The only thing that makes you comfortable with buying new cosmetics is that you know that the product is safe for you since it was tested on a animal, but does that make testing right' The most disappointing fact is that experimentation on animals is always tried to be kept quiet because who really want to kill a helpless little animal' If consumers realized that buying some of their common household items they were supporting animal experimentation, they would never buy products that are animal tested. The profit for that company would plummet to its gloomy death. Therefore, animal testing still continues without further adieu, silently killing more and more animals while putting humans at risk during the process.
Animal experimentation must be put to an end. Animals aren't just numb to their surroundings! They can see and hear and feel just as we can. They long to escape outside a window and run amongst their kinds in their natural habitats. There are other possible methods to complete cosmetic testing and disease research. Some possible solutions can be to get volunteers who would test products on them and pay the testers for having chemicals put on them. We are the ones who insist on buying the products that are harming animals, so why are not we the ones being tested' The company tests on animals making sure the chemicals in products are safe for consumers, but do they think about the sake of animals'
